So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
A current featured hypothetical trade at Baseball Trade Values has first baseman Yandy Diaz and third baseman Curtis Mead going to Seattle for Emerson Hancock, Lazaro Montes, Tai Peete and the Round A competitive balance pick:
https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/181711
The Steamer600 projections, which assume 600 plate appearances by each hitter, for Diaz and Mead:
https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?p=&lg=&team=12
Diaz and Mead are projected with 2025 strikeout rates of 15.4 percent and 19.9 percent, respectively.
The 33-year-old Diaz is owed $10 million in 2025 with a $12 million club option for 2026 (with no buyout). The 24-year-old Mead comes with six years of team control.

That is a dumb trade, it undervalues Seattle assetsharmony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 2:36 amA current featured hypothetical trade at Baseball Trade Values has first baseman Yandy Diaz and third baseman Curtis Mead going to Seattle for Emerson Hancock, Lazaro Montes, Tai Peete and the Round A competitive balance pick:

Why do you all keep bringing up Yandy Diaz?

For those of you who are interested, here’s a good summary of status of trade talks between the M’s and Boston (Castillo-Casas-Yoshida):

My guess is the Sox want to free up some cash to make a run at Bregman. Move Devers to 1B. They would seriously upgrade their infield and add to an impressive starting rotation. The Yanks would no longer be the de facto winners of the AL East on opening day anymore.
Maybe a Castillo and Haniger for Casas and Yoshida plus the Sox eating some of Yoshida’s remaining contract would make it work?

And overvalues Yandy, a 33 yo 1B who had major regression last season and is now a pretty mid bat likely to regress even further in 2025. Mead? Yeah trade for a 3B that had a worse OPS than Rojas in 2024. Brilliant!Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 6:44 amThat is a dumb trade, it undervalues Seattle assetsharmony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 2:36 amA current featured hypothetical trade at Baseball Trade Values has first baseman Yandy Diaz and third baseman Curtis Mead going to Seattle for Emerson Hancock, Lazaro Montes, Tai Peete and the Round A competitive balance pick:

The site shows that you have to add Bliss or someone else with significant excess value.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 4:15 pmFor those of you who are interested, here’s a good summary of status of trade talks between the M’s and Boston (Castillo-Casas-Yoshida):

Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
What’s the prevailing wisdom on Spencer Torkelson? He was a highly rated prospect and the first overall pick in 2020. But he’s struggled in the majors batting .221 and a .693 OPS
But with the Tigers signing Torres, they are moving Colt Keith to 1B. They have effectively bumped Torkelson off the roster, and my guess is he’d be a cheap get while his value is tanking.
Any interest in making a run at him?
