Good point here.

Also, where do you find park factors?
Park factors is based on how hitters hit at T Mobile relative to all other parks so irrelevant if our offense is good or bad overall.
Yes, but you don't think park factor is going to be influenced if the M's pitching staff is elite and their offense is shit?

I agree, T-Mobile suppresses offense... but in years where the M's have had good offenses and mediocre pitching staffs, park factor magically shifts to around 20th in the league.

Parks don't magically get harder or easier to hit in, do they? If T-Mobile is the hardest park to hit in, and the climate didn't magically change to year to year, it should always be the 30th park in baseball.
I knew this topic felt like deja vu.

I'm pretty sure they only take the home team hitters' and pitchers' stats and compare that to how they hit and pitch on the road when they compute park factors. Since they face roughly the same pitching and hitting whether at home or on the road, it eliminates the skewing along the lines of how good that team's hitting and pitching were overall that year.

One thing I don't take into consideration enough is that it hasn't just been the Mariners offenses that have seemed subpar the last few years. So it's been painful to watch, but they have held their own.

It has appeared to be thanks to the pitching, but I haven't really bought into that either because the pitching wasn't great in Away games either. The teams ERA in Away games ranked 18th in MLB in 2024.

Even from 2021-2024, in Away games the Mariners team OPS was 10th in MLB at .724. Meanwhile they were 29th at Home with a .682 OPS.

In 2025 their Home/Away splits are even more drastic. I think they're over .100 points higher OPS in Away games than Home games right now.

Anyways, T-Mobile sucks.

I think this is still the best explanation of why nobody can hit in Seattle.

It's the only batters eye in baseball with a batters eye that looks like an abyss.

That picture doesn't really capture the Mariners batter's eye though. It doesn't actually look like a black abyss, it looks black with visible seams between the wall segments. The wall isn't perpendicular to the batter's vision, so it appears like some weird wedge/trapezoid/fun house mirror thing.

That said, maybe they repainted it or something this year, because it seems like T-mobile has had plenty of offense so far.

I'm not so sure. They've been better everywhere, but T-Mobile still sucks the life out of both teams.

This year Mariners pitching has a Home ERA of 2.95 and an Away ERA of 4.64

Mariners hitting has an OPS of .715 in Home games and .831 in Away games.

Im all for them fixing up T-mobile however it takes to make it more of a hitter's park. Whether it's the batter's eye or the grass or who knows what else; fix it.

Pitching duels are fun occasionally but I'd rather see the offense.
