Win and we extend series win streak to 9. And we got Woooooooooooo starting!

Amen. It's not about the strikeout it's about limiting pitches per inning. If every pitcher could get out of the inning in 3 pitches every time, their arms would last a lot longer. As much as we all love a good strikeout, it's not needed. Groundout, flyout, don't care. Pitch to contact, let your defense take care of the rest. Pitchers have one goal, hit your spot. I'll take 5 Greg Maddux's or Jamie Moyer's over Nolan Ryan anyday. Of course it helps when your catcher is good at framing pitches.bpj wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 6:12 amHave our ace on the mound.
Bryan Woo doesn't waste pitches on the mound, I think that's part of what separates him from the others. He attacks. Look at that BB/9.
Yes, Gilbert has a good BB% also, he just wastes too many pitches to get the strikeout. At least, if he wants to pitch late into games.
Woo has 38.1 innings pitched and has thrown 531 pitches, an average of 13.85 pitches per inning. He's averaged 6.39 innings per start.
Gilbert has 30.1 IP and has thrown 499 pitches, an avg of 16.45 per inning. He's averaged 5.02 innings per start.
Castillo has 38.1 IP and has thrown 652 pitches, an avg of 17 per inning. He's averaged 5.48 innings per start.
It seems obvious, to me, that Gilbert is trying to be a strikeout pitcher, while Woo is just trying to get outs. Castillo's days as a strikeout pitcher may be close to an end.
Gilbert and Castillo are both running themselves out of games too early by fishing for K's.
K/9:
Gilbert: 13.05
Woo: 8.92
Castillo: 7.04
Average fastball velocity:
Gilbert: 95.9
Woo: 95.9
Castillo: 95.2
Hopefully Castillo can learn a lesson that Felix could never get through his thick skull about moving beyond being a strikeout pitcher.
Yep, they have a great defense behind them right now. Gilbert and Castillo both have excellent movement low in the zone. Put it to use.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 6:30 amAmen. Arozarena swung (or half swung) at three straight pitches a foot off the plate. Sometimes it works.bpj wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 6:38 amYep, they have a great defense behind them right now. Part of the reason Woo has a better W/L record, in my opinion, is because he's pitching deeper into games and limiting the middle relievers impact on his starts.
Gilbert and Castillo are trying to get everyone to chase strike 3 instead of challenging them in/near the zone on 0-2, 1-2, and even 2-2 counts.
Some of these MLB pitchers still think it's little league and they should throw the ball a foot off the plate on 0-2. Just wasting your pitch count, guy.
And Miller at 18.4 pitches per inning. Yuck.bpj wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 6:12 amHave our ace on the mound.
