OT: US Open Golf – Contest & Tournament discussion

Post by mostonmike » Thu Jun 05, 2025 3:45 am

Here we go then for the second part of the draft. Let's hope this goes well.

Draft Format
3 Groups - pick one from each in draft order - do all three picks at once
Each protagonist will then be allocated a further two players to give us all a unique squad of 6.

Groups
I hope this is the masterpiece of the draft. I went through the various qualification criteria and came across this
* Group A - red group, The original list of the top players from the World Rankings. Still 17 players in this list.
* Group B - blue group, the players who were given exemptions based on various performance criteria
* Group C - green group, those who didn't have a specific exemption but qualified based on being in top 60 of world rankings.

Order of picks (first selection in parentheses)
1 D-Train (Scottie Scheffler)
2 mostonmike (Rory McIlroy)
3 Juliooooo (Bryson DeChambeau)
4 Walla Walla Dawg II (Ludvig Åberg)
5 rockycola (Xander Schauffele)
6 desbcoach (Collin Morikawa)
7 TLO Idaho (Justin Thomas)
8 Seattle or Bust (Hideki Matsuyama)
9 baller (John Rahm)
10 maoling (Russell Henley)
11 Bil522 (Keegan Bradley) *** picked at the end of the draft to compensate missing the original draft ***

Expanded details
* After we have made our picks, I will then put all remaining players back into ranking order and allocate each protagonist two further players - but in reverse draft order. So maoling will get the two highest remaining players, then baller the 3rd & 4th remaining player and so on.
* Top 3 players across the whole weekend count.
* In the event of a protagonist not getting 3 players through, they will be allocated a player from the bottom of the leaderboard for the final two rounds. (maoling could get the player in position 60, baller 59th on leaderboard and so on - I will expand on this in a later post when we get to that point)

Deadlines
* Most of us tune in here during the Ms games, so if we can get through 2 protagonists choices per Mariners game that will bring us in line. As with the first round, lets adopt a sensible approach again.

World Rankings
References to World Rankings are mentioned throughout the thread, I believe it was rankings as per 19th May which I believe was the cut-off point for entry to the event.

Clear and obvious A.W.O.L
As per the previous round, If there is a clear and obvious issue where we have to bypass someone in the draft, then you will be allocated the highest ranked player available player from each group. SoB & maoling missed the deadlines, so we will take that into account when deciding to bypass

Changing players
Happy for changes to be made - HOWEVER, you have to be aware its going to confuse the next picker. So, to try and keep it all on track - can we do any changes and requests during UK daytime hours approx 12pm to 10pm BST (up to 2pm PDT) please? If you have a player who is scratched, please pick again from the same group as soon as you can (don't have to wait until tea and crumpet time over here  )

Darren, away you go. I think we should have at least 24-48 hours for pondering, so lets aim for Friday's Mariners game for first picks to be in....

We had a complete power outage here at the RV Park for like 9 hours so we had to camp without Internet and TV. I don't know how we got through it. I hope I didn't miss anything. Imagine my 10 yo self who loved camping in the 70s thinking he would have to do it without TV and internet. lol

Can't have both - has to be one from each colour..... 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green - you have 2 blues

I'll take
Shane Lowry
Sam Burns
Denny McCarthy (unless D-T takes him in which case, Min Woo Lee)
