Good find! I wonder if they'll immediately give him a long-term extension after the game if we do win tonight.

Re: The Proverbial Question
If Stanton felt public opinion had turned against him I could see him scapegoating dipoto. It be along the lines of them firing Servais. There was dancing in the streets but what did it get us, another carbon copy manager. And really I think the game management aspect is pretty small, replacing Servais with Wilson didn't change a thing. What they lost was a guy that's respected around the league for his player development abilities. All that's changed is the padres scooping Servais up to fill that role
The Padres have hired Scott Servais as a special assistant in their baseball operations and player development departments

No only if we lose. They don't want him setting to high of expectations.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 4:55 pmGood find! I wonder if they'll immediately give him a long-term extension after the game if we do win tonight.

And we're in a great position to finish out of the Playoffs once again. The Mariners are trying to beat the record for seasons not playing in a World Series. That's only 107. Held by the Chicago Cubs.?DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 4:55 pmGood find! I wonder if they'll immediately give him a long-term extension after the game if we do win tonight.

Re: The Proverbial Question
Depends on public opinion I guess. I think most people think he is a fucking idiot. Listen to people who cover the sport, and the real fans, and we all understand that this sustainability bullshit is just that, bullshit. You don't win a title by consistently almost making the playoffs. That is laughable at best. BUT, this ownership group measures public opinion in dollars and cents, and they keep making money, so they are fine.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:05 pmIf Stanton felt public opinion had turned against him I could see him scapegoating dipoto. It will never change because Seattle doesn't really care. Besides one real great run by the Seahawks, this city is mostly perfectly content with mediocrity. Seriously, before the Seahawks won a Super Bowl, the most successful professional team in this city was one that wasn't even in the city anymore!
The bottom line is, Jerry is a smug asshole, but he is doing exactly what he has been told to do. Keep them competitive enough to make money, and then hope that they can strike lightening in a bottle just once. It won't happen. The negativity over what they don't do to win is finally so front and center? I don't see anyone coming here unless they seriously over pay, and that aint happening. Get used to Garver and Donnie Barrells, because that is the type of player they will be signing from here until the end of time. Jerry is making money and so are his bosses. It's just a job to them.

Servais told them all to hit baseball hard, catch baseballs and run fast but they didn't listen. Not his fault.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:24 pmPlayer development as a manager?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:05 pmIf Stanton felt public opinion had turned against him I could see him scapegoating dipoto. Re: The Proverbial Question
IMO? The bigger issue is the guy that thought those guys were can't miss prospects. Dippotto tried to pay Kelenic before he'd done anything, even after paying White before he had done anything proved to be a disaster. He then paid J Rod like a Super Star, and he is beginning to look like a pretty good Major Leaguer at best.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:42 pmServais told them all to hit baseball hard, catch baseballs and run fast but they didn't listen. This team might as well operate under a salary cap, because we all know they aren't going to over spend. So when a guy like DIpotto over spends on guys that can't play? Why is it the managers fault that they can't play? There may be no sport ever that is less influenced during games than baseball. Sure, this organization has proven that it doesn't develop hitters, but I'm not even sure that is on the manager. They are a disaster from the top down, and I don't know if that is ever going to change.

Nelson Cruz, he had practically washed out of baseball before he began working with ServaisSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:24 pmPlayer development as a manager?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:05 pmIf Stanton felt public opinion had turned against him I could see him scapegoating dipoto. “I have to be thankful for what he did for my career. I think he’s one of those guys who turned my career around,” Cruz said. “I remember when I went to Triple-A that year, he came the first day, we started working right away. He showed me a few videos of a few guys that had looked like me – Carlos Lee, Derek Lee – and he tried to implement that stance on a new guy.”

Re: The Proverbial Question
Since they've existed a lot longer than we have, to even it up a bit we should combine the two franchises that started in Seattle. 104 (soon to be 106) seasons and one pennant, so if the Cubs win the pennant this season we'll be almost tied with them.ddraig wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:54 pmAnd we're in a great position to finish out of the Playoffs once again.
