Combined track record of the two Seattle expansion franchises

Post by DavidGee24 » Tue Jun 10, 2025 11:43 pm

The Mariners and the Brewers.

Total combined seasons: 106
Total playoff appearances: 15 (Brewers 10, Mariners 5)
Total playoff series victories: 7 (Brewers 3, Mariners 4)
Total pennants: 1 (Brewers)
Total World Series championships: 0

Holy SHIT.

That might be different if the Pilots had never left and the player acquisitions had unfolded the same way in the '70s (which may or may not would have happened as Bud Selig might have overhauled management after he bought the team) and Harvey's Wallbangers had played in the Kingdome. Yount/Cooper/Thomas/Molitor/Oglivie/Money/Simmons would have knocked the place down.

Would have been a lot like the 95 and 97 teams, don't you think? I'm still blown away that a team with Randy, Griffey Jr., Edgar and A Rod couldn't win more playoff games....and that the best finish was a team with non of those Stars! Well, I guess the 99 team did have A Rod, and they did make an ALCS, so there is that.

Best way to describe the two franchises: dismal and abysmal.

Really? I generally have been impressed with the Brewers. For a second tier team they hang in there in the central division. They seem to keep a steady steam of talent coming in. I was just reading about what they have in store the other day. They have really been frustrated trying to advance in the playoffs, being a brewers fan would seem frustrating

The Brewers latest promotion
Top Brewers pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski is bringing his 6-foot-7 frame and 103 mph fastball to American Family Field, where he’s expected to begin his career against a division rival.
And they've had some front office talent, David Stearns who runs the Mets came from the Brewers

Unlike the Mariners, the Brewers had solid starting pitching throughout their rotation. Obviously it wouldn't have been as good in Seattle, but their hitters would have been relentless.

The last nine years they've had strong regular-season play, they just can't even get past the first round of the postseason. You'd think that one year it would all come together and it just never does.

It is their bullpen that would have been in the difference back then. Back then it was Charlton and no else....until we traded for Slocumb...and then we still had no one else

Here is an interesting article about how organizations are liked , or not, by the MLB players. It was printed in the Athletic. It is interesting how both teams are sooo low in players likes or not

Which organizations have good reputations among players? Bad reputations?
Respondents allowed multiple answers

Bar chart of anonymous MLB player survey results of the questions "Which organizations have good reputations among players?", and "Which organizations have bad reputations among players?". The Los Angeles Dodgers had the most good reputation votes (82 of 126 respondents), and the Athletics had the most bad reputation votes (39 of 115 respondents).

How about the complete Insanity of giving a city a expansion franchise and then moving them after ONE fucking season. The irony is we got a new team in just 8 years. That would be like getting the Sonics back in 2016.
