Mariners win! We're HEROES!!!

It took a few innings to get going, but a good solid win tonight. And holy shit, did Cole crush that ball. I wonder how far it went. The balls that Ohtani and Raley hit into the top deck were given 470s so maybe 450? Had no idea the kid had it in him.

And yes, Dipoto fucked up today by taking the day off.

So it's no longer common wisdom that you bat your best slugger 4th in the order?
I believe the baseball gurus have decided its more important to get their best slugger more ABs during the course of a season. They now say that the 1-2-3 get between 40 and 50 more PAs during a season than the 4-5-6. So your best player now gets a top 3 slot, I believe often the #2 across the league.

Analytics again decides.

Sure, there is on average a difference of about 18 plate appearances between adjacent lineup spots...

Maybe i'm mistaken about which spot is considered "clean-up" and it's 3 rather than 4. I would be curious to see a breakdown of how many men are on base on average over a season for each spot in the lineup. Maybe the 4 hitter doesn't actually get more RBI opportunities than the 3 hitter. And i would agree the best overall offensive player should bat 3rd unless their OBA is much worse than their SLG relative to league average.

It was 113 off the bat and 470 according to statcast. It tied Mike Zunino for second longest blast by a Mariner in the statcast era. The longest is Jared Kelenic's legendary Wrigley Field bomb.

They managed to get Suarez on the flight back to Seattle from Sacramento
As some fired up Netflix and others drifted to sleep, a late -- and loud -- addition emerged at the front of the aircraft, which erupted when they realized what was happening.

Suárez then meandered down the aisle and hugged every single person, including his not-so-new teammates, clubhouse staff, coaches and even media.

“It was just a great moment, I think, for him,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said. “Baseball is about relationships. It's about the teams you play on, the teammates that you have, and anytime you get reunited with that, it's a special feeling. And that's what it felt like on the plane last night. It was a very cool moment for all of us.”

How ironic Jerry does not get an arm and we lose an arm same nite to injury.

It looks like they modified it to 456. The one Raley hit into the top deck was further towards center and I just saw that they gave him 459. Ohtani hit one even farther and they gave him 463. Surprising that there's only a seven-foot separation of the three. Color me skeptical.

Cole: 113.4 exit velo, 27 degree launch angle, 456 feet
Raley: 115.4 exit velo, 28 degree launch angle, 459 feet
Ohtani: 116.5 exit velo, 31 degree launch angle, 463 feet

Really starting to like Cole. With all the buzz about our lineup yesterday, he was the biggest factor in last night's game.

I had no idea they made adjustments. Gameday is now showing 114.1 off the bat.

Anyways, it was smoked. Any kind of consistency with that much exit velo is gonna be dangerous. If Cole is adding offense it's just gonna be a lot of long night's for opponents pitching. One good hitter after another.

DeGrom is tomorrow. It would be something if Ms can light him up. First thing is tonight though. Every game getting bigger each day and excitement will grow too if they can get on a roll.
