If you think people will spend their money on the wrong things, then explain how creating a ruling class changes that? Government attracts the dirtiest, slimiest, people.gil wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 7:21 pmI consider myself a strong advocate of free markets and capitalism (e.g., discussions here on tariffs), but we have to recognize situations that involve market failures, public goods, and free riders. Most of us benefit from roads, for example, but we also have an incentive to not pay our fair share. I would argue that we would not have adequate investment in many things if we just relied on "the market."
Also ... The pondering the practicality of all the contracts for all the services (defense, roads, food safety inspections, education, basic research) that would have to be negotiated with individuals is mind boggling. It would make the current federal bureaucracy look like a one man repair business.
There is no magical fairy dust called "government" that you can sprinkle on people to change human nature. Nobody is trying to gain power to act in your best interest. Nobody needs power to help you. They only need the power to screw you over and take advantage of you. Government is about telling you all the good things they're going to do but really bamboozling you into subjugation and extortion.
All services provided by "government" are services that can be provided by free markets better, faster, cheaper, because of competition.
Businesses need roads to make money off of commerce. You could invest in a private road just like you invest in the stock market. In today's society, the toll roads are the good ones. The government roads are full of potholes.
You don't need a ruling class in order to travel on roads, educate your children, or eat clean food. Think about what you're saying there and question why you think you need a slave master to accomplish these things. The government is contracting all of this stuff out anyways. But there's no accountability for what they choose to do with the money that they take from you, and you know that you're only seeing a small fraction of the stolen money in the government "services" provided. Most of these services are also of garbage quality compared to what you would get in the free market. Everything is expensive, corrupt, slow, etc.
The free market is based on trust and reputation. Third parties can perform audits without government. You have to wrap your head around what makes government a government versus just regular people. There is no difference. There is no legitimate authority. Nobody ever gave consent. Every government in the world was forced onto it's people.
Everybody worships the Constitution. it's just a piece of paper. Your rights don't come from a piece of paper they come from God. But, when the Constitution was created by a small group of wealthy landowners, did they go all across the land and get everyone's consent? Nope. And what about the Federal Reserve and the IRS? Did everyone give consent?
Regardless of what you think works best, there is still objective morality. Natural law. All taxation is illegitimate. So, there is no way to morally stand for extorting everyone with the threat of violence. The only valid law outside of natural law is contract law. There is no contract unless both parties consent. You don't owe anyone anything unless you consent.
