Well, to be fair you DID just post what might have been the worst thread in Forum history. I thought I was reading an article from The Onion.

Yep, same reason Boone was so valuable. Not many 2nd Baseman hit for that kind of power. I used to say the same about Griffey. CF was an Otis Nixon Kenny Locton type position back then. Griffey was Mays.

A Rod provided that at SS as well. But it seems every time we had that? We lacked somewhere else that many lineups didn’t. 3rd and LF often. Maybe it doesn’t matter? Maybe when we look at offense, we should look at batting order and not what defensive position they play? Is the lineup worse if your Catcher is a bopper and your 3rd Baseman isn’t?

I realize it should allow us to improve elsewhere, but what are the odds this team spends money to complement the lineup they have? My guess is we complain all off season about how they didn’t add enough fire power, and at the deadline we are hanging around the last WC spot hoping to find a suitable trade partner so we can pay a rental in the short term.

I don’t think it matters if our Catcher hits for power or not. They aren’t going to add the pieces around him to take advantage of it anyway.
#1 - They put plenty of offense around Boone.

#2 - They put plenty of offense around Cal

Young is already starting to lock up 2B in my opinion. His bat is good and it looks like he's getting more and more comfortable hitting - will see how the rest of the season goes but he should be given 2B next year to show he's legit and if so - should be his going forward.
Totally agree. .761 OPS since his 1-19 start. It will be one more year of JP and then Emerson takes over SS, Young at 2B. We still need a 1B and 3B next season though.

In late July. Again, that is what I assume will happen again. They won't do jack diddly in the off season, they will hang around the last WC spot and then look to add a rental or two at the deadline. Pretending the team we are looking at now is what we had in March is fucking ridiculous. They did NOT add plenty of offense around Cal until their hands were forced at the deadline. I have a hard time imagining that many teams add a #4 and a #5 hitter in late July. The entire lineup changed with those moves.

Hats off to them for making those moves, as the only time we have made the playoffs is when they made a splash at the Deadline instead of selling off pieces with an eye for the future. But doing it again next year would be stupid. Add to the team during the winter and come into the Spring guns a blazing, instead of hovering around the middle and hoping something is available in late July.

JP is the starter next year, then you have arroyo, young and Emerson to fill the infield. Not sure what you do about 3B for a year, maybe it’s Williamson… if only Arroyo could play 3B. Emerson might end up there, especially if Celestin develops like we hope. He’s probably 2028 though, maybe mid 2027

Is it too early to get on the "Bring back Naylor" bandwagon?

I'd be okay with that so long as they don't overpay based on 2 months' performance. I like Naylor, but he plays 1B and his best season (2023) was worth 2.7 fWAR.

I think they re-sign Naylor for 4yr and $76million.

I think they trade Castillo to the Dodgers for OF Josue de Paula. Castillo offers gives the Dodgers something it has lacked for a long time...durability. De Paula gives the M's a high quality prospect that will control the strike zone, be a really good left handed hitter, and hit for power. The one time I saw him play, he reminded me of the former TB All Star Carl Crawford.

Those are the 2 moves I think they should do this offseason
