I'm encouraged by his use of secondaries in yesterday's game. Mariner pitching orthodoxy emphasizes 4-seam fastball and sinker (2-seam fastball), but for Evans those pitches aren't good enough to throw 70% of the time, and so I like that he was trying something different. Unfortunately, most of his secondaries aren't that great either, at least not yet. But, throwing them more and getting that feedback from hitters is presumably part of the process. His cutter and changeup right now are the most encouraging.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 3:52 pmOn a side note.....what do you guys think about Logan Evans.
Granted there was a rain delay yesterday.
BUT...he's been crappy lately.
Do we really have no one else to put in that 5th starting role???
Again, couldva wouldva shouldva been an area to explore at the trade deadline I'd argue.
A veteran 5th starter role to at least give us a shot of winning a few games until playoffs when you don't need him anymore.
Just saying.
Emerson Hancock anyone?!?! Is he any better?
I see Evans as a very likely trade piece in the offseason. I think a lot of teams will find him interesting, even as an unfinished product. And he could really benefit from going to a team that isn't so stuck on throwing fastballs and more fastballs and then even more fastballs. If he doesn't get traded, we could see him settle in for most of the year at AAA, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see his game step up a notch, making him a prime candidate for a deadline deal.
