I think they are necessary for a healthy lineup. Stick one in front of a couple of big boppers.
JP should be one of those two but for some reason he thinks he is a HR hitter.
I mean, his OBP isn't that much lower than Donovan's. But his OPS is about 70 pts lower. From everything I'm hearing about Donovan is that we will love him. Like I said, I am a firm believer that hitting is contagious. Polanco was good at extending innings. I still hope we can bring Jorge back.
There's no longer any room for him on the team

Another thing is they have to pay him 20 million next year. No way in hell they do that.

Williamson hit 1 HR in 295 MLB PAs and even when he increase his power he only hit 5 in two months in the hitters Paradise that is the PCL. 15 HR pace.
Try on this comp for Ben Williamson:

The Seattle Mariners acquired Brendan Donovan in a three-team trade that sent infielder Ben Williamson to Tampa Bay. Boston had been rumored to have interest in Donovan so let’s look at a potential Red Sox equivalent of Ben Williamson.

Marcelo Mayer and Ben Williamson offer difficult comparisons as Mayer was a No. 4 overall pick out of high school in 2021 while Williamson was a second-round, No. 57 overall pick in 2023 as a rare four-year college player. In 55 games his senior year at William & Mary, Williamson posted a .390/.513/.662/1.175 line (57 R, 12 HR, 49 RBI, 14 SB, 40 BB, 22 K).

Williamson was rushed to the majors 20 months after the draft with only 150 minor league games under his belt. Mayer debuted 39 days later after 315 minor league games over five seasons. Despite injuries, Mayer had played in more minor league games than Williamson had in college and the minors combined.

Last season Mayer posted 0.2 bWAR (0.4 fWAR) and a wRC+ of 85 in 44 games while Williamson posted 1.3 bWAR (0.4 fWAR) and a wRC+ of 76 in 85 games.

This week ZiPS released its three-year projections, including these numbers for Mayer and Williamson:

2026: MM 1.0 WAR in 88 games; BW 2.0 WAR in 134 games

2027: MM 1.1 WAR in 93 games; BW 1.7 WAR in 133 games

2028: MM 1.4 WAR in 98 games; BW 1.8 WAR in 130 games

In total, ZiPS projects Mayer with 3.5 WAR in 279 games (1.25/100) and Williamson with 5.5 WAR in 397 games (1.39/100).

FanGraphs’ 2026 projections from eight sources generally offer similar parallels:

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/marce ... #dashboard

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/ben-w ... #dashboard

Mayer and Williamson each come with six years of team control; neither is expected to attain Super Two status after the 2027 season.

Nevertheless, Baseball Trade Values assigns Mayer $50.9 million in surplus value and Williamson $7.8 million in surplus value.

Does Mayer gain trade value from a top prospect sheen that may have worn off?

Thanks to Donovan we don't have to throw both Young and Emerson out there with our fingers crossed, just whichever one has the better spring training.

Right now we've got seven totally sure things in our everyday lineup. Our only worries are if JP reverts to 2024 form and if we play one of the youngsters and he's not up to it. Gotta like that.
RF needs some bounce back to 2024 levels too but yeah not to shabby!
If Raley and Robles could come back healthy and put up some numbers like they did before, it would be huge. Their injuries last year probably hurt more than the pitching ones did.

I like our RF better than our LF at this point.

Pretty great outfield overall, with Canzone as a 5th OF.. wow.

Wish they could've added the talent to push JP back to batting 9th, but it's as solid of a lineup as we've had in years.

I like JP batting 9th. He becomes the 2nd lead-off OBP GUY.

Wow I didn't realize he had a .352 OBP last year. That's pretty damn good.

No there's not. But if the youngsters don't perform or there's an injury. You never know.

The Met's who are predicted to win more games than we are would also have to suck and be sellers at the deadline. Not sure why you think that is going to happen.

Nobody seemed that excited about JP last year (or any recent year).

But now everyone seems excited they added his clone in Donovan.

Donovan had a higher OPS. But welcome to T-Mobile, we'll see if that lasts.

I remember reading the mariners are predicted to win the most games in the AL. That was because of AL east beating each other up
