yeah, but what interesting I think is the culture behind it. The Japanese concept of team being what's important, the duty is to move the runner up.

It might net a run, it's trying for runners at the corners. Ichiro is bunting for a hit of course. Again, a lot of it in my mind seemed better suited for a dead ball kind of era, but the balls not dead. I just would wonder about it, was Japanese baseball stuck in some weird time warp? Ichiro seemed that way to me. If the ball is dead, a worthless piece of crap that you can barely drive over an infielders head then trying to bunt for a hit there might make sense. Were they playing baseball like they learned it 100 years ago?

He was probably hitting like .330 at the time with about 10% of his hits being infield singles that wouldn't score a guy from second. So there is a 30% chance that he drives in a run with a base hit to the OF. Say there is a 50% chance that he gets a bunt single which is generous given he wasn't successful. Next guy up is probably hitting .250 so you multiply 50% x .250 = 12.5% chance of them scoring a run vs. 30% if he swings away. 7th grade math tells you it was MORONIC and selfish. He just wanted to add to his hit total.

Maybe the voter that didn't vote for him remembers that bunt. lol

I swear too much around my three year. I seem to be swearing more now than I would before. I told him today, we're going to town which he liked to hear. He jumped up and replied, "We are going to fucking town! " It just reminded me of something ichiro might say.

The problem I have with the narrative is it didn't made sense then and it makes even less sense now. So ichiro is selfish, just thought of himself not his teammates. Except this is the player that has probably devoted more time after retirement to his team than any player I can think of. He coaches during spring training, he's been in the clubhouse during their playoff run. He had his own custom catching equipment made so he could catch batting practice. But yeah he was a selfish player , okay, if you say so

Pretty good point Donn. Was never much of an Ichiro fan, but he's probably rich enough that he wouldn't have to help out if he didn't want to.
