That's odd, the whole thing is odd. They hadn't been in contact up until Garver calling them? We shall see, what I see is they already have Knizner on a ML contact. They would have to eat that mil as well as pay garver his $2mil. I'll be surprised if that happensCoeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 3:57 pmIMG_1625.jpeg
Evidently Cal thinks Garver is worth adding. This sounds to me like it may be already decided who joins the team
M's sign Mitch Garver to minor league deal.

Exactly my thought. For $3.25M they could have signed a pretty good BU Catcher instead of two shitty ones.....Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:19 pmThat's odd, the whole thing is odd. I don't think there was that many to choose from. Gary Sanchez signed for $1.75 mil. It's not so much stepping up to a better option as I don't see them paying that much for a backup catcher I think the guys that get paid more can play first base.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:41 pmExactly my thought. I'd have gone with a scrap heap backup catcher, put the $2.25M they overspent on catchers, and the $6M they wasted on Refsnyder, and however much they're giving Donovan to be J.P.v2.0 and put it towards one good bat.

Overspent on catchers? Knizner is on a ML minimum contact, that's all they have spent so far. Can't get much more scrap heap than that. Donovan is around $5 mil which is pretty reasonable

Polanco got $20 mil. You have Refsnyder from the right side and Donovan from the left for basically half the price.

I wouldn't have spent on Polanco either, but neither Refsnyder or Donovan look like answers to me.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 6:30 pmPolanco got $20 mil. You have Refsnyder from the right side and Donovan from the left for basically half the price.
They look like the typical guys Dipoto throws millions at then gives twice as many at bats as they deserve trying to squeeze value out of them.
Donovan probably won't roll over and die like I think Refsnyder will, but my guess is he'll be last years JP Crawford, if we're lucky. And nobody seemed too excited to have him last year.. At least he costs half what JP does, I guess? But still cost a 98mph pitcher on top of that..
Refsnyder is like 3 months younger than Garver is now and got like 200 plate appearances last year. Which, he was used as a platoon guy, ok, I get it. Maybe he can bring that success from Boston with him.
We'll see. I hope they prove me wrong obviously.

For $11 mil who do you sign? Do they out perform Refsnyder and Donovan? And you still need to complete the roster.bpj wrote: ↑Sun Feb 22, 2026 1:18 amI wouldn't have spent on Polanco either, but neither Refsnyder or Donovan look like answers to me.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 6:30 pmPolanco got $20 mil.
