Spring Training Thread
Re: Spring Training Thread
Ohhhhh Casey.....and you weren't even at the bat.
It's only Spring Training and our players are still scattered across the WBC.

Lawrences value is a swing guy isn't it? It's been expected he'd make the roster, I guess because of a lack of options? See what they decide about him. I don't think the numbers mean much. They are looking at other stuff.
And Young, even though he didn't display it in the minors I wonder if the infatuation is the possibility of some genuine power.
It just occurred to me, dtrain brought up the dbacks viewing Young as a Marte replacement. It's the same GM isn't it? Supposedly he really wanted Marte because of his profile, maybe it's more than replacing a 2nd baseman. Dipoto doesn't want to go through that again lol

Casey Lawrence should in no way make the roster. He's an emergency call-up guy. You call him up and then you DFA him down to Tacoma. If someone picks him up, that's fine. But his value comes from the extreme unlikeliness of that happening. He's old and not very good and everyone knows it, and so more than likely he just flies through waivers. That's his value.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 2:12 amLawrences value is a swing guy isn't it? It's been expected he'd make the roster, I guess because of a lack of options? Sorry, I was thinking of Criswell. I should shut up being I don't really follow ST. What's Criswells chances of making the team?GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 2:39 amCasey Lawrence should in no way make the roster. He's an emergency call-up guy. Casey Lawrence is almost 40 yo and is nothing but Cannon fodder. He will never throw another MLB pitch again. Cooper Criswell is the going that will fit the role you described. Give them credit for that pick up especially now that Miller won't be ready for the bell or even game 5.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 2:12 amLawrences value is a swing guy isn't it? Best surprise out of camp might be Hancock. .68 WHIP and 12 Ks in only 7 innings. Guessing he will be our new #5 with Criswell as next man up.
Ferrer finally had a decent outing albeit only .2 innings.

Re: Spring Training Thread
Criswell is kind of interesting. He doesn't throw hard but the Mariners must really like his command and secondaries. My guess is he starts the season in the rotation in Miller's spot and then Hancock is the #7 guy in the bullpen behind Vargas.
Miller is starting to seem more fragile to me. This latest issue is the oblique, which can take a long time to heal. I think it's likely he misses 4-6 weeks.

Old buddy Casey Lawrence (compromising pics of Dipoto???) gave up 3 runs in the top of the inning to Colorado).D-train wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 10:10 pmCole Young has pretty much locked up 2B going 2-3 today to get him to .250/1.007 after a slow start. Good for him. All the kids that thought Colt should be our OD SS looking like complete fools. Colt did just single but is now sitting at .207/.526. He is barely on the sidewalk let alone knocking on the door....
It's Spring Training...........Go M's!?!
i was there. nice game until Lawrence came in. the Rockies just teed off on him. he was dogshit. and he didn't just give up 3 runs. he gave up 3 in the 7th, 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. i kept thinking they'd seen enough, but damn, they really let him hang himself.
