The problem with how the Mariners use their platoon bats is the problem.

The Red Sox got production from Refsnyder against lefties. But he still had 1/3 of his plate appearances against right handed pitching to keep his rhythm and keep his mind in the game.

In 2025 with the Red Sox, Refsnyder played in 70 games. He had 138 plate appearances against left handed pitching and 71 plate appearances against right handers.

In 2026 with the Mariners, he has 15 plate appearances against left handed pitching and 0 against right handers.

That's not necessarily what's wrong with Refsnyder now, he was never really very good, but it's part of their problem in general, why they get nothing from their platoon guys. Can't jerk them around like the M's do.

And this is why Wilson is an idiot to pinch-hit for him in the 4th or 5th inning (which never works), and it becomes worse when he then pinch-hits for Canzone/Raley the next time they come up to bat (which also never works).
