agreed. In today's game, you can succeed if you're small, but then you better have some REMARKABLE traits - for Brees, the most accurate passer ever maybe, combined with Payton's wizard coaching. for Kyler (jury still out at NFL level, but great in college) - tremendous speed and quicks. for Russ, well documented hand size and of course the best intangibles, leadership, crazy competitiveness, elusiveness and rocket arm. But at 6-1 with a subpar fastball and below average mobility Morris is a back of the rotation starter at best.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 2:10 pmMorris just seems too small. I realize size isn't the issue it used to be, and it certainly isn't for Pete. Moore at BSU, Browning here and then the odd love affair with Haener. But, it is hard to see Morris beating out the others he would be in competition with.57reasons wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 3:19 amcant blame him for wanting a fresh start with all the other players that are defecting, and the general downhill trajectory they have been on for the past 3 years (admittedly, in part of because of his own injuries). as for UW's side, i would much rather take my chances next year with KJ than with Sirmon, especially for the season opener against a stingy Michigan D., even at the risk of pushing Sirmon and Morris out the portal exit. be very surprised if Morris ever starts a game here - a Petersen recruit who seems to have by far the lowest ceiling of all the guys in the pipeline. one more 1-year bridge with KJ then begins the Garbers/Huard era.

Sirmon is the QB for this team's present and future. Bringing in a 1 year guy (I don't think whoever it is beats out Sirmon anyway) is a stupid, stupid move as it not only leads to constant 1 year stop gaps but it likely affects you on the recruiting trail when you look to sign the best QB prospects.

Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
why would it affect requiting?
Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
Because recruits know that at any time a transfer can come and take their job. Usually you know who your competition is and once you beat those guys out you are good to go. Sirmon is probably bugging his balls of right now.

yeah?...so they decide to go to a school where that would never happen?...what school is that? Wisconsin?...How about a recruit reads that Costello is interested in going there, gee, he has been a starter at Stanford, must have a big brain, maybe that the UW is a pretty good school, I think i will look into it.
Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
The difference is now grad students don't need to take a year off so it is a lot more common. But yeah, five star guy like Huard probably don't give a rat's ass.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 10:15 pmyeah?...so they decide to go to a school where that would never happen?...what school is that? Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
interesting the hype to the thing...
What i think might be behind it is the new OC, Costello is described as a "pro style" qb
As hard as I squint at it, I can't see anything negative about having Costello want to go to the UW, if Simon is worried about competition then he is probably in the wrong business. And if you are out there recruiting kids to play ball for the UW and can't see a positive angle there then you are in the wrong business as well.At the start of the week, Mississippi State was the unanimous Crystal Ball pick of Costello's landing spot. In addition to Loy, a pair of 247Sports Mississippi State insiders -- Paul Jones and Steve Robertson -- and Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong all projected Costello to join forces with Mike Leach in Starkville, but Loy has since flipped his pick to Washington while Wiltfong's projection is now listed as undecided.

this might be the first result“Coach Donovan has a great deal of experience at both the college and NFL levels, learning from a lot of great offensive minds about coaching the kind of aggressive, pro-style offense we want to play here at Washington,”

yeah, I don't know anything about it, hadn't been following, he might not transfer at all i guess
The transfer portal changed college football a season ago, and it’s showing no signs of slowing during the 2019-20 campaign.
Starting Oct. 15, 2018 student athletes were allowed to enter their names into a transfer portal, which allows schools to initiate contact with them. While a player entering their name in the transfer portal does not mean a player intends to transfer, the portal's presence gave athletes options they didn't have before. Athletes can pursue and talk to other schools without restriction, all the while remaining enrolled at their present school.
That change in the rules resulted in thousands of FBS players entering the portal, including high-profile movers like Justin Fields, Tate Martell and Jalen Hurts. It’s completely altered roster construction strategies for some programs, and resulted in a few programs from the Group of Five having their rosters pillaged. The portal drew both heavy criticism and praise from coaches around the country, largely depending on who you asked. .

Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
I could see some sort of a conflict angle if Simon was Lake's qb, but he isn't, he was requited by Peterson, new ballgame now
And, if he's fully recovered, is Costello just window-shopping? He considered going pro last year before returning for his disastrous senior season. If he's healthy, unless potential money factors in, why wouldn't he head to the NFL now?
Again, is he window-shopping? Costello has been linked to Mike Leach and the Air Raid offense in news accounts, with the suggestion made that the QB and the coach were talking about Washington State before Leach headed to the South.
Still seems hard to believe this Stanford guy would end up at Mississippi State. Coming to Seattle might be country enough.
Either way, Costello likely got a big pitch to pull on a purple No. 3 and take the QB snaps against Michigan in eight months.

I'm obviously not there at practice... but I don't see where the shortcomings are with Sirmon.
Kid has been committed since his sophomore year of HS and bleeds purple. He's 6'5... mobile... has a huge arm... is supposedly a great leader. Only thing I've ever heard about him is he's struggled with accuracy.
KJ Costello has never really impressed me much. He's big, pretty mobile... but when he has an off game... the wheels fall completely off.
This is him last year...

It's fucking awful.
