Costello was better the year before, when he was healthy. Hard to imagine that Sirmon would be better than that, in his very first year at the helm with zero significant game reps previous, particularly if he's not known for being accurate. Not saying Costello is Drew Brees, but at least he shouldnt ADDITIONALLY be battling the growing pains of first big time experience, as Sirmon would surely face. You could argue that he could conceivably be slightly better in his second year, but that is when Garbers/Huard should be ready to go, both of whom i think have more upside. I fully expect Sam to be the best QB of the storied Huard clan.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 2:17 amI'm obviously not there at practice... but I don't see where the shortcomings are with Sirmon.
Kid has been committed since his sophomore year of HS and bleeds purple. He's 6'5... mobile... has a huge arm... is supposedly a great leader. Only thing I've ever heard about him is he's struggled with accuracy.
KJ Costello has never really impressed me much. He's big, pretty mobile... but when he has an off game... the wheels fall completely off.
This is him last year...

It's fucking awful.

Given the new HC I see next season as a bit of a rebuilding year. I would rather go with the local kid who has paid his dues instead of the guy in that video.

if Costello is the better qb then why not use him? Why would you not put out the best team possible? They could have a good team next season, I do not understand the concept of rebuilding
Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
The the guy in that vid is the best QB they did a horrible job of recruiting and we will be even worse that 2019.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 1:40 amif Costello is the better qb then why not use him? I understood it was a function of Costellos health, if he is healthy he could be a pretty good qb, why not bring him in and see what kind of qb he might be, that is, if the opportunity arises? Its not like you are promising him the job is it?
I read somewhere, a healthy Costello might be enough to put the Huskies back in the playoff picture, wondering why everybody is so worried about it, seems like an opportunity to me

Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
You guys do understand he was injured last season, he had one time been considered a pretty good qb. Like i was saying, i think its a function of the offense they are interested in installing, if Costello is healthy and they think he is the guy to run it why not give it a chance? I don't understand the doom and gloom...
Costello was the starting quarterback for the Cardinal for the latter half of the 2017 season, the entire 2018 season and for five games during the 2019 season as he battled through multiple injuries. His best season came as a sophomore when he threw for 3,540 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for a Cardinal team that finished the campaign 9-4.
The 2019 season got off to a strong start for Costello when he competed 16 of 20 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown in the first half of a win over Northwestern. But a gruesome helmet-to-helmet hit knocked him out of the game and he was absent in the loss to USC one week later. Junior Davis Mills, a five-star prospect in the Class of 2017, started in his place. He came back in losses to UCF and Oregon but injured his hand against the Ducks and missed the next three games. Costello returned in the win over Arizona on Oct. 26 but was knocked out of the loss to Colorado the following week after another vicious hit which ended his season.
A four-star quarterback and the No. 46 overall player in the class of 2016, Costello will be a hot commodity on the graduate transfer market this offseason. The injury concerns will be difficult to ignore, but he showed during his three seasons with the Cardinal that he has tremendous upside as a pro-style passer.

Maybe I have a bad taste in my mouth due to the Eason debacle but perhaps that was due to the OC who is now far away.

Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
oh, okay...I honestly don't have much of an opinion about that. I really haven't been following the Huskies the last few seasons. I think i have an opposite feeling about it. I haven't been paying attention, but now with a new coach, this seems like it might be an interesting sort of a kick start to the new regime. Dwelling on the possibilities, the guy is going to have an unusual amount of experience for a college qb, and something to prove. He is hanging around, where Eason left. I am always optimistic about guys getting healthy again. I be more interested in Costello's upside, than Carson's development.
Re: Stanford QB Costello visiting UW
Eason was no debacle, the coaching failure was! thought all doubt about that had been erased when Pete called it quits - this after several mystifying losses that had people in these boards openly wondering about a lack of fire from the top. From the beginning with the hiring of rookie OCs, to the shared practice reps with Haener, to the poor play-calling to the stubborn allegiance to older less-talented receivers, the 2019 staff didnt do Eason any favors. he's not Joe Montana, or Joe Burrow, but not chopped liver. Hard to imagine any other QB from last year's roster, or previous (including Yankoff and Browning) and hard to imagine them functioning any better in those circumstances. That said doubt he does much at next level unless he can somehow develop better pocket feel and mobility - good luck with that.

This has the raiders taking him 12th and the Hawks getting the steal of the 1st round
