I’m a little surprised he has jumped this far in value considering this performance is more of a blip compared to the rest of his career.

I get that 3B is a more coveted position, but Dom has been a consistent 130 wRC+ hitter for a couple years now.

I could see a straight up trade or maybe add a smaller piece. The Giants could likely be patient with a Logan Evans for instance. MLBTV is def a “what have you done for me lately” valuation.
If it was a what have you done for me lately site Arroyo's value would be under $10M given he has no position, has been injured and his OPS is barely over .700 in AA do to a plummeting walk rate. (he sold out for more power) Canzone is a part time player and almost exclusively a DH.

If JP isn't going to be a Mariner next season this is something to consider in the offseason. As for this season, where would you play Schmitt? DH, and mainly against lefties? Even if he's not a good defensive third baseman, that's what he is and he'd probably tell the Mariner organization to stick it.

Also, if you're the Giants, would you trade Schmitt for Arroyo and Canzone? I wouldn't, and Logan Evans wouldn't sweeten the pot at all. However, Buster Posey appears to be an idiot who can be fleeced.

It's kind of wild how bad Buster has been at being a GM.
Amazing how shitty some great players and even Hall Of Famers are at the job. Posey, Matt Millen, Isiah Thomas, and of course our own Ron Francis to name a few.

With zero relevant experience they just gave him the keys to the castle. It boggles the mind.

For me it was pandering to the fans, and yeah it's surprising to see these days with as competitive FOs are now. It was like MAGA meets baseball, get back to traditional values

Their starters have combined for -1.7 bWAR and their highest rated pitching prospect would be around 15-20 in our org… but is currently 10th in theirs.

Evans, when healthy, would immediately slot in their rotation and be their highest rated pitching prospect despite the UCL. They need MLB ready starters in the worst of ways.

Also… 5 of the top 6 in their farm are SS/2B’s. They don’t need Arroyo, they need pitching.

And Schmitt won’t land them a frontline starter, but certainly Evans’ long-term control combined with Canzone in a throw away year would def be appealing.

Dan Wilson....Matt Millen had to be the worst GM in sports history....

Gotta agree with this. I don't see them sending either Colt or Cole back to the minors. And Donovan will be playing when he gets back without a doubt. That's 2 infield spots and a DH right there. The only logical move would be to DFA JP. and they don't have the balls to do that.

Or just DFA Refsnyder and give Schmitt the occasional start at 3B outside of DH duties.

Right now they have Refsynder, Wisdom, and Garver filling the void against lefties. I’m not sure how it’s possible we couldn’t use a good, righty bat at the deadline.

It's really worth thinking about, in my opinion. Adding a solid to plus right-handed bat at a skill position, even as a backup, makes a lot of sense. Schmitt could rotate between 1B, 3B, and DH.

One thing you have to remember is that other franchises are going to be in the bidding. Here's Logan Evans' career: https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... ans-000log Along with his injury history this doesn't really wow anybody and someone else should be able to offer better. Even with a guy like Posey, you're offering rubble for diamonds. The fallacy of fan trades.
