It's Pride Month!

Post by douche » Fri Jun 05, 2026 2:09 pm

I thought this summed it up rather well...

Once a symbol of struggle against discrimination, "pride month" has morphed into a taxpayer-funded circus of nudity, awkward political pandering, and self-inflicted humiliation.

Not to mention the sheer phoniness of pretending that it's "all inclusive" when it isn't. At least Black Lives Matter didn't try to bullshit everyone by changing their name to Lives Matter.

There's not even a reason for "Gay Pride" anymore as a pushback against society's views, society has grown up to the point where most of us see gay people as...people.

Not to mention why the hell would one would be "proud" of what gender they want to have sex with. Like George Carlin famously said, pride should be in something you achieve, not in a genetic accident like being Irish, 5'11" or having a predisposition for colon cancer.

And we have a "month" for this crap.

I agree that by and large society has grown up. Also I think Carlin nailed it, as usual. But ... I think there are a lot of gay people who grew up when things were not so good, and they have memories of that. And like most of us, things that happened to us growing up have lasting negative effects. So I'm willing to cut some slack to people for whom "gay pride" might ameliorate some of negative feelings they have from the discrimination they experienced in the past.

Language is an interesting thing. Dialects, phrases, etc. I think lots (maybe all of us) consciously or subconsciously use language to signal that we are part of one group or another.

The main thing to realize about the "months" is they accomplish the exact opposite of what they advertise.

Black history month creates MORE racism. It brings attention to the differences. Equality comes from not spending an entire month pointing out that certain groups are different. Moreover, the underlying message is that these groups need assistance and can't make it on their own.

Kids go to school and we spend inordinate amounts of time and energy going over the civil rights movement. Without this so-called important history lesson kids would just grow up thinking the black kids were equal. We make sure to teach them that they are NOT equal. They are different. They need their own month.

It's all so backwards.

The idea of an entire month centered around homosexual orientation is beyond messed up. And exactly why is a gay pride parade about public nudity? If the LGBTQKSDLAJFLKASDJ community really wanted equality, then they wouldn't present themselves in such degenerate fashion. But, it's not about equality, it's about celebrating the gay lifestyle. And boy do we ever celebrate it. Being gay is not a limitation in our society whatsoever. In media it's pretty much presented as the greatest thing in the entire world.
