Yeah, interleague play has killed the All Star game. There is hardly a reason for it anymore.

Thanks for that history, Rocky. I remember pre-interleague play and the All-Star game was big. I watched this one for the first time in 25 years. Pretty ho-hum, but we're used to that these days

The AL victory does mean that the Mariners will have home field advantage in the World Series.

Yeah, and i was against the idea because of that, it lost a certain magic. But it was probably necessarily. The owners might have gone broke

Just like they will go broke without a salary cap. Imagine being a billionaire sitting around all day thinking about how you can get even richer. What a pathetic existence.

I think I have asked this before about the All Star game. With 162 Mariners games to keep an eye on and all the sports for the dainty little fellas like Football, Cricket, Tennis, Snooker and Golf I never give it the blind bit of notice.

There just isn't room in my world. But I would be interested to learn about how big it is or was. Is it something you watched in awe as kids with your dad etc? Is it one of fond memories and does it still bring back the thick air of 60s, 70s nights in the "good old days"

Just one of those history lessons that I will have missed out on.

I never watch the All Star game. I think it's kind of dumb, actually, though it is nice for the players that get selected.

They should just announce the All-Stars, and never play the game. Same for the NFL, which is a total joke when they play the game.

You're just out of touch with the times. Me too... I thought that was the case. Then the collective bargaining agreement in 2017 went and changed it.
