Ms fire assistant hitting coach
Bobby Magellanes the Asst Hitting Coach was fired. Not good enough. Just one guy?
Re: Ms fire assistant hitting coach
Amazing that one assistant coach could mess up Cal, Julio, Naylor, Refsnyder, etc.

Re: Ms fire assistant hitting coach
I have the BEST idea ever. Since great hitters like Edgar Martinez and Kevin Seitzer have coached these guys to the worst batting average in all of Major League Baseball, why don't we try the opposite approach and hire another Mariner legend famous for being the opposite of that: Mario Mendoza.
Seriously. Since our players are so resistant to the coaching of guys known for hitting over .300, maybe they'll do likewise to the coaching of a guy known for (and whom the famous line is named after) hitting under .200
You can't look me in the eye and tell me that this isn't the greatest idea in baseball history.

I hear Pete O'Brien is available. Maybe Darnell Coles? How about Todd Cruz?
At this point they could hire the Ghost of Fernando Valenzuala. That dude showed more promise in his at bats than many of these losers.

It is hardly one for Quincy.sports.mynorthwest.com wrote:"The Mariners entered Thursday ranking last out of the 30 MLB teams in batting average (.229) and slugging (.377), 29th in runs (415), tied for 28th in OPS (.687), and 24th in on-base (.310)."

Perconte was good in his two years with us, so he's overqualified.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:15 pmOnly if they hire Jack Perconte to be his assistant.
O'Brien, as disappointing as he was, carried an OPS of just under .700 for us, and he was good when he was with the Rangers. Coles had one really good 1/3 of a season for us and a couple good seasons on other teams. Todd Cruz isn't a bad choice, but unfortunately he drowned 18 years ago so he's not available.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:17 pmI hear Pete O'Brien is available. Maybe Darnell Coles? So, if we make the criteria for Mendoza's assistant another player (catchers disqualified) who hit like shit and neither for average nor power for at least two seasons in a Mariner uniform and also hit like shit for everyone else he played for, I think that the best choice would be Josh Wilson.
