White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
This is crazy too. The site is usually pretty good but their value for Lopez is absurd. Dude is on pace for almost EIGHT WAR

Oh btw, Dominguez has a 1.04 ERA over his last 8 appearances with 11 K's over 8.1 IP's.

No shit, we are saying they only limit his innings if he sucks again.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:18 pmExactly, that's what I said. He's in their rotation putting up innings, that's what he's in control of. If he's sniffing 180 innings he's pitching well. If he is pitching well they aren't taking him out of the rotation. It's common sense to me.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:08 pmHe is on pace for 145 this season. Castillo only in control of it by pitching well. If he has and ERA one year from today over 5 like he does now there is no way they let him get their and flush $25M. Common sense.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:47 pmIf he's in their rotation and healthy he will have a chance to do it. He's pitching every fifth day and putting in the innings. They aren't going to just bench him. Castillo is in control of it in my mind. That is what Castillo has been about, cranking out the innings

Nice! With that and us possible tweaking him and pitching in T Mobile could work out quite well. I thought he was a throw in to balance the salaries a bit but not any more...Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:32 pmOh btw, Dominguez has a 1.04 ERA over his last 8 appearances with 11 K's over 8.1 IP's.

It's a matter of belief vs proven performance. Kirby has pitched at a very high level since he debuted.
Lopez is having an amazing year, but do you believe this is who he is moving forward or does he regress to what he was before?
A good example is Andres Giminez who put up a 7.4 bWAR 2022 with a 141 OPS+... the bat then regressed back to the mean.

Now you're shifting things, if hes bad. You said they absolutely won't let it vest. I said ultimately he's in control. He has to be good to pitch 180 innings. That's what he's in control of, that was my point. Its not about worrying about the vesting option, it's hoping he will be good.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:17 pmYes - an organization like the White Sox will limit his innings if he's bad in an effort to not pay him $24.5M the following year.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:10 pmSo let's say they are in a similar situation next season as this. A shot at the playoffs a middling rotation and a healthy Castillo and they bench him. That sure makes sense. They don't trade for him if they see the control as a positive. They got him because he's an innings eater, that's what he's been good at. And of course they are going to then limit his innings, that's dumbSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:55 pm
They absolutely will.
If he's pitching to a 4.50+ ERA next year and is even sniffing 180 innings... they will scratch him or start to limit his innings.
Happens all of the time.
You think the Sox are going to just willingly keep him around for $24.5M if he's bad next year?
Sometimes I don't even know what I'm doing here on this forum with some of the bullshit I see get thrown around.
And I agree for the amount of baseball that members serm to watch the lack of actual insight is interesting.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out buddy
Would be a criminal offense to let that option vest.
Careful, I'm one of the only people on here who ever defends your constant "erm, Idk... what if..." drivel.
Believe me, I don't need you to defend me

Yeah now seeing below average offensively but his D sets a nice floor. He would have to play 3B though which diminishes his value significantly and he has barely played there. I just don't see him as target...Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:35 pmIt's a matter of belief vs proven performance. Kirby has pitched at a very high level since he debuted.

Exactly, that's what I said. He's in their rotation putting up innings, that's what he's in control of. If he's sniffing 180 innings he's pitching well. If he is pitching well they aren't taking him out of the rotation. It's common sense to me.
Ofc if Castillo is pitching well the vesting option isn't that big of a deal.
But there's a very, very low chance that he pitches well given his regression and age.
I am projecting, and with good evidence, that he will in fact not pitch well and there's no way they pick up the vesting option.
