I wanted to elaborate on the Rodden for Colt switcheroo. Based on Jerry's history I didn't think he would do it. I was wrong and couldn't be happier that I was. This is a move not based on pedigree or money or PR perceptions. It is a move to facilitate Colts development and to try to win more baseball games.

A great move. Not only does it send a winning message to the MLB team it sends a message to the entire minor league farm system that we don't care about anything than production. If you produce you will be rewarded and Brock rightfully was.

btw don't ever be afraid to admit you were wrong. You will be far more respected when you do that than doubling down on a narrative that is no longer accurate. Just admit it and move on like Jerry and I did.

Not expecting much out of Rodden and this probably also means more playing time for Rivas, but it had to be done. Emerson was KILLING the team.

When are people going to realize that if someone is a highly-touted prospect yet is putting up pedestrian numbers in the minors they need to pump the brakes on the effusive praise? It was stupid to give Emerson all that money. With Julio it made sense because he was killing it in the minors and then had a great first two seasons, his regression since then notwithstanding.

I know, but I think if they'd done it a year sooner it still wouldn't have been a bad idea. Although you do have a good point, wait until we see some production at the big league level.

Cal Raleigh's single-season OPS drop of 384 points is surprisingly not the biggest one in MLB history. Incredibly that distinction belongs to Rogers Hornsby who from 1925 to 1926 dropped from 1.245 to "only" .851 (394 points). However, he probably felt a lot better after tagging out Babe Ruth trying to steal second for the final out of the World Series that year.

His is by far the largest on a percentage basis which is really what should be the comparator as you point out in 851 Ops is still good as opposed to his sub 600 Ops which is trash.

Oh absolutely, .851 was still probably tops among second basemen that year.

In a previous thread I brought up Chris Davis. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ch02.shtml He had a 300-point drop from 2013 to 2014 which as horrible as it is isn't close to Cal's. Encouraging is that Davis recovered the next year.

Here's one that just popped into my head: https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ha01.shtml 379-point drop and he's very comparable to Cal. Wilson was a drunk who had the 56 HR/191 RBI season in 1930 and then showed up at spring training the next year with a big beer gut and spent the season and the rest of his short life (he died at 48) shitting the bed. I sure hope Cal isn't also a drunk. Even if he's injured, this just defies explanation.

I guess he had an excuse. Playing with a bad wrist injury trying to gut through it. Wrist injuries swinging not good. Sucks they made him play through it. Hopefully he has surgery and comes out hott next year.
