Jeremy Pena took a 100 MPH heater off his knuckles and came out of the game. He'll probably be fine but maybe he misses a few games.

Asking "What are you talking about?" when I'm making basic points doesn't strengthen your position. It only brings into question your understanding of the fundamentals of building an MLB roster.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 4:43 pmWhat the fuck are you even talking about. Fucking word salad there to say jack and shit. They are so concerned about building the Farm System, and YOU even admit that is to win at the Big League level. They have gone to the playoffs two fucking times since 2001. How in the fuck is that winning at the Big League level? My point is very clear. They care about building a Farm, celebrating the Farm, and being just good enough to sell tickets. But winning at the Major League level, REALLY winning, has never been the objective, and never will.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 12:54 amMichael K serving up straw man specials.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 9:24 pm
So, the purpose was to make the playoffs twice? Got it. What a smashing success.
Jerry doesn't keep his job as long as he has if winning at this level was the goal. Build the Farm, make money. Do it over and over again, make promises and sell tickets.
You can buy into the bullshit all you want, but how the fuck is me pointing out that the Farm System they have built has only resulted in two trips the playoffs a fucking Straw Man. You are so fucking annoying dude. I'm better off this way.
I'm "talking about" the role and value of the farm system in building an MLB roster, which shouldn't need much explaining, because it's so obvious.
The average peak of a player is 27-28 years old. The average rookie is 25 years old. There is no salary cap in MLB, but you get 6 years of club control on every rookie that comes up before they hit FA, plus you can offer them extensions early in their career to buy out the first few years of free agency. Additionally, you can use your prospects as trade chips to fill out the roster when you are in "go for it" mode. I'm just repeating myself. You can maybe try to comprehend it this time, or you can just dismiss it as word salad again.
Your argument is a straw man, because the Mariners performance doesn't have any correlation to the importance or value of the farm system. How do you think the Astros went from losing 100 games three years straight to winning the World Series? Your straw man argument is even weaker due to the fact that the Mariners team has been successful by any measure when you look at 2022 - 2025. They were one game away from the World Series last year. If you're gonna use a straw man, at least use a legit one.
"Two times since 2001" is an irrelevant comment when discussing Jerry Dipoto's tenure. Those two times came within the last 4 seasons and weren't just appearances... He came in 2016 and the farm was ranked nearly dead last in baseball. Since then they've developed a ton of good young pitching. Like I mentioned in my previous post, they didn't just go to the "playoffs" (it's called the post season... they aren't points, they're runs). They won a wild card series and a divisional series and nearly went to the World Series all within a 4 year span. Sure, they could've performed better, but they could've performed a lot worse just like they did from 2001 - 2022. None of this has anything to do with the important role that a farm system plays in the creation of an MLB roster.
The only argument you can really make is to increase payroll. But, based on the amount of money they've spent, the ROI has been pretty good in terms of winning over the last 5 years. Many teams have spent far more and accomplished far less.

For the last time, for those in the back not listening. The Farm System is to help win at the Major League level. Two playoff appearances since 2001 or since Jerry got here is not winning at the Major League level. It's not a strawman you dope, it's a fact.

So, let me get this straight. My argument is a strawman because the Mariners have NOT been successful at the Major League level, but the Astros were?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 7:05 pm

I never said they didn't get close last year, but unlike you....I am looking at this year as well. I am looking way back to when they were one game out of the WC and were sellers at the deadline. Those were all Jerry years. Sorry, Jerry deserves more criticism than he gets. I don't give a shit what horseshit you want to pull out of your ass. Nothing you have said has done anything to prove my point invalid.
They built a Farm System. Fantastic. Hang that next to all the other Banners Jerry has acquired. Oh, wait. Year what of the rebuild, and we went from one game of the World Series to losing to the Brewers 22 to 0 to fall nearly ten games under .500 and have the 9th best record in a dogshit American League. What a smashing fucking success that Farm System has turned us into.
Fucking A man. I don't give a shit how far you go back, look at THIS fucking team. Lightyears worse than last year. But you don't care, just make excuses. Don't reply, I'm done reading your bullshit. We get it, you are content with this organization in the current state. Fine, I'm not.

I think they're improved offensively with Brock, Donovan, and Ward in the mix. Then there's Cal Raleigh. If he could snap out of his funk it would help tremendously. With some consistent pitching they could conceivably go on a run. Both division and wild card are still plausible. But, yeah, the August schedule is brutal. They could be buried before we even get to September.desbcoach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 6:34 pm45 games left in the season. Your original question was "what good is a farm system if you can't use it to win at the MLB level? That question doesn't even make sense. It's like asking "what good is a pair of scissors if you can't use it to cut paper?"Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 7:12 pmSo, let me get this straight. Here's a little perspective for you...
The White Sox lost 102 games last year and this year they're leading their division. The Blue Jays won 94 games and went to the World Series last year and they're currently struggling in 2026 just like the Mariners. The Chicago Cubs went 108 years without reaching the World Series.
The Mariners didn't need Cal Raleigh to hit 60 home runs again. They just needed him to not be pure dog shit.
I don't have to make "excuses" for the Mariners. I have no accountability. I'm not part of the PR team lol. I don't get paid to spread pro Mariners propaganda. Perhaps my expectations are lower, but that's just based on my understanding of the game. The Yankees went 15 years without reaching the World Series. There's 30 teams. Fewer teams reach the post season in MLB than in any other sport. It's the most difficult sport to dominate. It's the luckiest, flukiest game out of the four major sports that Americans watch.
But, yeah, the farm system is a critical piece, no doubt about it!
Re: GT 8.19.26 M's #1 Prospect Suddenly Retires; can't show his face as Mariner
The farm system is the one strength this organization has. I'm not sure why this is suddenly thought of as an impediment to winning at the major league level.
Re: GT 8.19.26 M's #1 Prospect Suddenly Retires; can't show his face as Mariner
The team struggling from here on would probably be what's best for the organization.desbcoach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 6:34 pm45 games left in the season. They have to get Dipoto, Hollander, and Dave Cameron on a bus tf outta here.

And now it's just because you have a better understanding of the game? Jesus, you really are an arrogant twat waffle aren't you?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 8:27 pm

I've been saying that for a few weeks now. Best to just lose. I doubt anything will happen, but at least then maybe they'll have to answer to some criticism.
But be careful. Vogelbomb is going to have to break out his vast baseball knowledge to let you know how little you understand about why this team is actually successful and you just don't fully understand.
