As for the slowness of the games, how could anybody be bored sitting through a long sunny day, watching a doubleheader with the 1961 hated New York Yankees, joking around with your buddies?

We were never in a rush to get home, and afterwards, we waited until our Favorite guys came out of the locker room, to get autographs.

Average length of a 9 inning game in 1961 was 2 hours 34 minutes. From 1952- 1985 it was always between 2:19 and 2:40. It never made it to 3 hours until 2014. In 2021 it went up to a record 3 hours 10 minutes. With the pitch clock it is now back down to 2 hours 40 minutes. I for one am a big fan of the pitch clock.

I think in the old days the umpires took an active part in moving the game along. If a pitcher was pawing around on the back side of the mound for 30 seconds or a hitter stepped out of the box and took 30 practice swings they would give them the business. Now if an umpire tells a player to put his hat on straight the world comes unglued and the ump has to issue a official apology.

I can remember double headers at the kingdome. Six hours of baseball with 15,000 fans in the seats. I can't imagine doing that again.

ADHD and the internet has changed me. I haven't read a book in almost 25 years. Last one was the plight of the USS Indianapolis. I used to read 3-4 books a week as a kid.

I went to a Sunday DH and they had a cow milking contest between games. Had to be 1978 or 1979.
