This to me is the most important thing that has to change. This insane notion and slow playing everything and keep rolling out guys that are absolutely sucking for months. It provides a culture of not win now and not make decisive decisions when it's clear that things are not going well but just keep rolling with it. Players cannot be happy with this mentality and it's a terrible culture and message to send. Only way this change is if they get rid of Jerry and completely clean house. He's so committed to the bit and will never change.
You and I see pretty much eye to eye on most things, DT. I am with you on this as well, but I think the issues are deeper and more systemic than this.
Look: for all the black-pill posts, I still want the M’s to win with the pure, uncut desperation of a true believer. They’re my team. Every time I swear I’m done, I come crawling back like a Real Housewives boy toy who’s already been fired twice and still thinks this season’s the one.
The entire organization is just straight-up rotten to the core. The institution is not built around a culture of winning. It’s a meticulously curated shrine to mediocrity. Dan Wilson is so far out of his depth he's dog paddling in the middle of the Pacific. Dipoto would be selling used cars wearing a Herb Tarlek castoff suit if he wasn't Stanton's lap dog. And Stanton? He's a shrewd, weaselly little profit-vampire who treats the club like an ATM. He happily pockets profits without giving 2 shits about whether they win or lose.
Bottom line is this: this organization will never be serious if they don't build a winning culture. This losing season is viewed dispassionately as just part of the law of averages. Better luck next year.
So yeah - we can change our coaching staff. We can develop our farm system. Hell, we can even get a better-than-average bat in the offseason. But all of this shit is nothing more than shuffling the deck chairs. Nothing will change until the people who run this organization - from top to bottom - quit, move one, get fired, or get bored and sell the team and are all replaced by serious baseball fans. We need people who love baseball first, and love winning second. For as much as I hate the Dodgers, I am sick with envy that they have an owner and GM that shred the jugular of every other team in the league just to win one more game. That's the energy this team needs.
Until then, the organization doesn't give a flying fuck about the people on this board - they know we will all be fans no matter how good or bad the team is. So why eat profits to build a better team when you can build a roster with mediocre talent that you salvaged from a dumpster fire behind the Dollar Store?
