Just checked his stats, De La Cruz.

Dream on.

If he’s not untouchable, no one is.

There's no way the Reds trade de la Cruz, especially for that offer. He's the proverbial bird in the hand and you don't give up guys like that.

Unfortunately, the SS job is going to be Emerson's next year so we just have to brace ourselves. Hey, it could be worse, we might re-sign JP. 😬

Funny someone told me on X that the M's would be INSANE to make that trade so seems I am in the sweet spot. lol

Speaking of JP......its a very real possibility per Divish.

DENVER — J.P. Crawford took a moment to admire his work.

After falling behind immediately 0-2 to Rockies right-handed Gabriel Hughes to open the game Friday at Coors Field, Crawford wasn’t going to give in to start his night.

Crawford refused to chase a pair of pitches out of the zone and then fouled off back-to-back curveballs at the bottom of the strike zone that stayed over the plate.

So when Hughes threw a slider in basically the same spot, Crawford pounced on it. He yanked the mistake pitch, sending a missile over the wall in right field.

It was his 13th homer in 109 games this season and the 17th leadoff homer of his career, ranking him second in team history behind Ichiro, who hit 37.

In what could likely be his last season in the organization, Crawford is finishing strong to possibly garner another season with the Mariners.

Since returning from the injured list Aug. 25, Crawford has been one of Seattle’s more productive hitters over the past 22 games. Entering Friday, he had a .274/.393/.373 slash line in 90 plate appearances with a double, three homers, eight RBI, 12 walks, three hit by pitches and 14 strikeouts.

When Colt Emerson went on the injured list because of a wrist injury, Crawford returned to his normal position of shortstop for the remainder of the season.

With the five-year, $51 million contract extension he signed before the 2021 season set to expire after the season, Crawford will be a free agent.

He’s made it known that he’d like to remain with the organization. He volunteered to play third base when Emerson was called up from the minor leagues to increase his value with some versatility.

With Emerson undergoing season-ending wrist surgery in late August, there is some concern he might not be ready go when (or if, because of a possible work stoppage) the 2027 season starts.

Emerson is expected to be cleared to participate in spring training. But he will be limited during the offseason, including not swinging a bat for most of it.

Given that it’s a wrist injury and Emerson’s struggles as a rookie, the Mariners won’t rush his recovery and rehab. They will make sure he’s physically ready to go, believing that wrist discomfort led to his inconsistency at the plate.

Having a veteran utility player who can handle shortstop duties until Emerson is fully ready is a necessity. They have Brock Rodden and Leo Rivas — both switch-hitters — in the organization as utility players.

Crawford’s defense has regressed since winning the Gold Glove in 2020 to the point where most professional scouts don’t believe he can be an everyday shortstop. He dealt with shoulder fatigue for much of spring training and started the season on the injured list.

Sure but they aren't going after Randy so I would forget about it. He is going to be the top FA OFer and we aren't out bidding 29 other teams that are only focused on his bat and aren't too privy to the fact he is a head case.

Ok who would you like to be the starting RF on OD 2027 whenever that is. If Canzone then who is the LF? If Donovan then who is the 3B?

The RF FA pool is trash and the best available RF at the deadline was none other than Taylor Ward. So who is this mystery man that is better than given your top prospect who current has a .970 OPS a chance. So are you then demoting Laz to fuck around in AAA again?
I’m not sure they aren’t going to make a serious QO for Randy. For all kinds of reasons he makes the most sense.

There actually are a number of “as good, or better” OF available for purchase including George Springer, Jazz Chisholm, Seiya Suzuki and Dalton Varsho. But Randy makes the most sense if they are targeting free agents.

If they want to go the trade route, there are lots of options there, too. Notably, Steven Kwan would be a good 1 year rental. There will be others - hard to tell till the season is over.

I love Laz, but he has to learn to hit lefties - what good is a player who can only hit half the pitchers he faces? Hard to tell since they haven’t really let him hit lefties since promoting him to the majors. Also, from what I have read he has a cannon for an arm but lacks speed and range in the OF. I think he is destined for a Yordan Alvarez DH role, IMHO.

No idea what you mean by a serious QO. They will make a QO and he will reject it and and they will get draft pick compensation for him signing with another team. Pretty simple. Did you not learn from you Ohtani prediction? Randy is the NUMBER ONE OF FA this season. This org does NOT fish in that Ocean. No idea why you keep bringing it up. Tell you what. I will be you 15-1 odds on where Randy signs. If the field signs him I win $20 and if the M's sign him you win $300. Deal???

I don't think they are targeting FAs for LF but we shall see. Sure it makes sense from OUR perspective but not theirs which is what matters

Kwan actually does makes sense! Had a great 2nd half with a .861 OPS and ended up with 5 WAR. Perfect for LF.

All that matter is overall OPS. How is it better to hit both lefties and rights at a .750 OPS clip than hit RHPs at 1.000 OPS and LHPs at a .600 OPS which is a .900 overall OPS. I will NEVER get that. You must be reading 3 yo scouting reports. He has average speed and range in the OF. His D is MASSIVELY better than Alvarez. He will be in RF at least until his late 20s

I'm willing to wager a Crawford return is much likelier than trading for Del la Cruz trade. Even in the unlikely event Emerson begins the season in AAA, they aren't blocking him
