Top 5 TV Shows of All-Time

Post by XpertDBA » Wed Oct 14, 2026 2:21 pm

Just saw that the kid who played Walter White's son in Breaking Bad committed suicide. Incredibly sad.

My top 5 TV shows of all time:

1) Better Call Saul - How you can improve on the original masterpiece and tie it in as a Prequel is unparalleled in TV history, and how they did it was so unbelievably good.
2) Breaking Bad - The gold standard of the Binge television era
3) Lost - The OG of the TV serial - the production, music and acting made you feel like you were watching a movie each week. People rag on the final season, but the final episode always makes me weep like a baby, and I loved the last season.
4) Game of Thrones - Here is where the final season did kill the entire rest of the franchise. Daenerys Targaryen goes ape-shit and kills everyone? Totally not the character we watched the entire series. What a shame
5) M*A*S*H - The show ran much longer than the actual war did, but the combination comedy and drama each week was a very special thing. The final episode is still the highest rated (non-Super Bowl) television show in TV history. That's an extraordinary record to have held for more than 43 years, and shows just how cherished this show was, and still is.

Not sure of my order, might end up editing this.

1. Game of Thrones
2. Sopranos
3. Suites
4. Cheers
5. Breaking Bad

I'm sure I've left some off, since I'm basically winging it. There are probably some shows that I have seen and would put in the top 5 that I am not thinking of.

Cheers is probably actually my #1. We used to have watch parties on Thursday night for Cheers. For the last Cheers I was working nights, raced home....we had a keg! Needless to say I didn't make it to my college class the next day. But I did have a court appearance as a result of the party!

Cheers is definitely in my top 10. Great characters and the writing was just so good. When Diane left the show, it slid a bit, because her off/on/off romantic relationship with Sam was just so good.

I was stunned when they didn't end up together in the last episode. All this talking had me searching how to Stream, and I think I'm going to re-watch Cheers!

Nice !! I think my favorite shows were the ones where they are were always trying to outsmart Garrys Old Towne Tavern and it would always end up in some disaster.

The Norm one liners to start are just simply the best. "It's a dog eat dog world out there Woody, and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear!"

"How's a beer feel Mr. Peterson."
"Pretty scared if I'm in the room Woody"

Cheers was on TV one night, and a very obscure scene were Miss Howe is talking to Sam about one of her boyfriends. I can't remember if it was the Drake or Robin, but I think it was Robin. I look at my wife and say "I will take that bracelet", just as soon as Rebecca says it. I probably hadn't seen that episode in more than two decades, and there was no lead up, we had JUST turned to that station. She was not impressed with my ability to remember sports and trivia, and nothing else.

I liked the episodes where Robin is dirt poor and Rebecca keeps thinking he's testing her to see if she loves him for only his money (which is really all she ever wanted). Funny that she ends up marrying a plumber at the end, although plumbers these days make a fortune.

I would think Twilight Zone, Perry Mason and Columbo should be on the list. I'd add Nero Wolfe (2001-2) and Bonanza as well.

For me Mash could have been on the things everyone loves but I don't list. Never got the allure.

Watched Cheers a lot and it was pretty good but not great imo. I found Diane to be a very annoying character.

Only watched GOT once and the episode I watched just alternated between dragon fights and very stern serious dialogue, not my cup O Tea....lol
