Re: New Manager Poll
I did explain it. As I said, perhaps my view is incorrect. But, my sense is that a hire of Stephen Vogt would be based more on his local connection and his previous stint as a coach in the organization. I would prefer that those factors not be the driving factors in a managerial hire.

Re: New Manager Poll
Well he's gotten the guardians to the playoffs three times now, won MOY twice so there's more than just nostalgia at work. Even if he wasn't from the area he'd seem like an interesting hire based on that success. The deal is for it to happen he'd have to have a real desire to return, that's what it turns onGL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2026 8:30 pmI did explain it. As I said, perhaps my view is incorrect. Re: New Manager Poll
Why would that matter if he's a good manager, though, other than to indicate that those in the Mariners org responsible for hiring him are clowns? I mean, we already assume that.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2026 8:30 pmI did explain it. As I said, perhaps my view is incorrect. Hiring him wouldn't be based on his local connection, that's the opportunity to hire him. It's like Tampa Hiring Lou. It turned on Lou's desire to be closer to his mother. I'm guessing Vogt is happy in Cleveland which would make it mute. That and what the Guardians would ask for him. Are you willing to give up a decent player for him?

Re: New Manager Poll
Like David points out, a good manager is considered to be worth perhaps three wins a season which doesn't sound like much. But on the other hand, a player that's considered to be able to deliver three wins a season on a consistent basis is a valuable player. That's a $100 mil contract range.

Re: New Manager Poll
I'm sure his commute is far shorter he probably lives in a condo downtown Cleveland. Is his family under house arrest in Olympia or what. Bizarre that that is an issueBig_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2026 5:49 pmCloser than Cleveland!D-train wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2026 2:45 pmHis family is actually in Olympia which is a two and a half hour round trip commute without traffic 81 times a yearBig_Maple wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2026 7:41 pmI can actually see then making a run at Vogt. They’d have to orchestrate a trade like they did with Piniella for Randy Winn.
They know Vogt. He’s doing amazing things with the Guardians. For whatever reason, they let him go, and I’m sure they’re regretting it. Vogt has family in Seattle. I know it’s a longshot, and I know it’s what I’d like to happen rather than likely what will happen. But the Mariners may actually surprise us on this one.

Re: New Manager Poll
I don’t think a hometown or being close to family, extended, or otherwise, is THE deciding factor for players or coaches. But it may be. A factor. After all, they’re human.
All else being equal, I would think a player or Coach would choose a Siri that is close to where they grew up or where they have family. He likely figure somewhere in the decision-making matrix.
Maybe it’s why he chose a coaching position with the Mariners in the first place after he retired as a player.

He says he isn't interested so that's that
CLEVELAND -- Guardians manager Stephen Vogt dispelled speculation about his future, saying he'll return to the club next season to chase an elusive World Series title.
"I'm here," Vogt said at a news conference Thursday. "I'm coming back."
Vogt has led the Guardians to a division crown in each of his three seasons, He has twice been named American League Manager of the Year. With the Seattle Mariners' managerial spot open, there had been rumblings about Vogt possibly leaving in order to be closer to his family's home in Olympia, Washington
