You are probably right. JS does a good job with the cap, and maybe they are just camp bodies. But, when looking at what we have done to improve this team we added a pass rusher that was about third or fourth best on the team the last time we had him, an aging TE, an injury prone CB, a 3rd Receiver that has never lived up to his hype anywhere else and we rearranged the chairs on the Titanic on the O Line. Even signing Clowney is just bringing back someone we already had!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 4:30 pmi would have to go through the signings more closely in terms of what it costs to cut some before the season. I do think JS knows what he is doing in that respect. I was thinking Jones at guard but you are correct, it could be tackle. I think if Britt proves to be healthy they could bring him back at center. You have a healthy Britt, Brown, Jones, I think you have some talent there. Its not all pro but its not a five alarm fire, its okay. They draft a lineman to develop. They need to address the dline, the off season is not over
We arent changing anything. To me, that is asking for trouble. An offense with Wilson, Lockett and DK shouldn’t become useless because they lose their RBs and Center! The roster construction tells me it’ll be more of the same next year.
Yes, we still have the draft. But we now go into the draft with the same holes we had going into Free Agency. Signing Conklin, IMO, might have taken the O Oine off that needs list. Instead we signed four guys that didn’t move the meter. Even Irvin and Clowney wouldn’t have taken D Line off the list, but would have at least reduced the need.
Right now? Going into the draft? What do we not need? QB, TE starting WR and Punter are all I can think of. Maybe Corner, but I still think we need a slot CB. Sure would have been nice to go into this draft with fewer needs. I’d love for RB to not be a need, but the way we run this offense it now is. It is obvious that without an upper end back we are neutered, which is stupid, but true. So now, despite having two quality backs, because we can’t function without a high level one, we need another.
I don’t understand this at all. Three of the top ten paid backs made the playoffs, two of those played on the same team and the other was on the 49ers and barely cracked the rotation. Why are we the good team that falls apart without a Pro Bowl back in the offense? Because we for some reason built our O Line around guys that can’t pass protect and our passing offense seems to rely on playground plays to live.
As I said, shoring up some of these holes might have been nice. We did NOTHING to fix holes, just threw good money out there for depth...so we can enter the draft looking to draft a ton of starters only to hear our head coach tell us in September they just aren’t ready to play.
To get deeper in the playoffs than we have before we now need Carson to stay healthy (no backs stay healthy) we need Penny to come back strong and be fresh and healthy at the end of the year, and because that is unlikely we need to draft another back! We need Clowney and another pass rusher and we need a Center and Guard, if not a RT. Pretty much all boxes we could have checked in January, before we signed new players!
