Should the Mariners target 27-year-old lefthand-hitting Toronto leftfielder Derek Fisher, who may be the odd man out after the Blue Jays signed outfielders George Springer and Michael Brantley?

Never mind.

ZiPS projects Fisher, who is out of options, with a 2021 WAR of 1.1 in 111 games. A 2017 Top 100 prospect at MLB.com, Fisher has posted an OPS+ of only 78 in 458 career plate appearances, but an OPS+ of 122 in 39 plate appearances this year. Fisher has four years of team control.

Baseball Trade Values accepts a trade of outfielder Jake Fraley and righthander Justin Dunn for Fisher and 27-year-old righthander Trent Thorton:

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-38475/

Dunn, like Fisher, made a brief appearance on Top 100 prospect lists. Fraley, unlike Fisher, has two options remaining so the Blue Jays could stash him in the minors. ZiPS projects Fraley, who has six years of team control, with a 2021 WAR of a negative 0.1 in 100 games.

ZIPS projects Thorton, who comes with four years of team control, with a 2021 WAR of 1.7 in 24 appearances, including 22 starts. In 2019 Thorton posted 1.9 fWAR in 32 appearances, including 29 starts, covering 154.1 innings.

ZiPS projects Dunn, who comes with five years of team control, with a 2021 WAR of 1.1 in 27 starts.
At first I was going to say why don't we just trade club house equipment managers but then I got a look at Thorton and my My God, Smoak just faked his move to Japan, donned some space glasses and took up pitching! Let's go bring him home!!!!

I guess there was some confusion initially about his destination. A lot of people mistake Houston for Toronto so makes sense.

Michael Brantley's 2-year, $32 million contract with the #Astros will be paid out equally, $16 million in 2021 and $16 million in 2022.

This FanGraphs interview with Taijuan Walker, who mentions the pitching technology in Seattle and Toronto:

Very bizarre mistake by the national baseball media.

Between Profar and Enrique Hernandez it looks like the going rate just for a utility man is $7M.

That seems pretty steep, but Profar at least is on the upper end of the production. I've never heard of Hernandez.

Enrique Hernandez, who posted 3.2 fWAR and 3.3 bWAR in 2018, stroked a two-run homer off Red Sox reliever Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the 2018 World Series:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 0270.shtml

The 2021 Marcel projections for Hernandez and Jurickson Profar (who is 18 months younger than Hernandez):

EH 446 PA, .239/.311/.423/.734
JP 525 PA, .242/.323/.425/.749

Steamer and ZiPS project Hernandez with 2021 WAR of 1.0 in 79 games and 0.6 in 141 games while projecting Profar with 2021 WAR of 1.5 in 136 games and 1.6 in 136 games.

Thanks harmony, looks like they both put up similar numbers in projectionland, $7M seems to be the going rate
