Servais was on MLB Network doing Jerry's bidding...

"We have a nice young core of players starting to come together... they're learning..."

"We knew a couple years ago in 2019 that it was a transitional year for us... we were gonna go into a step-back or rebuild mode... it's just one of those things, we're trying to get things right back here in Seattle... it's going to take some time." All while jerking off the Montero trade like it's special.

Basically told us Gilbert is starting in the minors... because why wouldn't we want to watch Chris Flexen pitch?

On other teams in the division potentially leaving their competitive window and the opportunity:

"I think it's really important to be disciplined... you can really screw it up if you're not ready... there's a 24 month and a 24 hour plan... managers tend to be on the 24 hour plan... that's why I'm often brought in on the loop of the 24 month plan... there's a time, and when the time is right, not just Jerry, but the ownership group, will jump on the gas."

Basically Servais gets a guaranteed job as the manager of this club through 2022 for being a giant pussy.

Fucking Christ.

Our payroll is $100M less than it was in 2018. The stock market is up almost 50% in the past year so our POS weak ass owners can STFU about crying poor. John Stanton might be the worst thing to happen to the org. since George Argyros.

"The idea of payroll limitations to offset financial losses is galling for average fans. They live in a state of constant debt, now magnified with the pandemic, and have still invested their earned money into those often overpriced game experiences. To them the Mariners aren’t mitigating lost revenues, but refusing to match their own relative financial investment and commitment. Or put simply, fans don’t want to hear about billionaires losing money due to COVID."

Least Divish said that... I wonder why he doesn't write an OP-ED about what it's like being a sports writer in Seattle for a sports team owned by billionaires who are cheapskates when you're paid $60k a year and your rent costs $2,500 a month for a shitty apartment on Cap Hill.

Mr. Contrarian strikes again with an unrealistic hypothetical. He could do what Lou Pinella would have done and that's ask his GM for at least one more player instead of nodding his head like a turtle.

There's a difference between going full lap dog and asking for ownership to field a team that can help the optics of your performance.

Servais is the biggest pussy there ever was. Imagine you take a job in a professional sport where competition is everything and you curb that mentality to appease the pockets of the rich. Where is his spine? Where is his drive to win?

I honestly think Servais doesn't even look at baseball like a competition... he legit thinks he can just stick to his pussy, passive ways and the analytics will work it all out. He's in for a rude awakening when they kick his ass to the sidewalk like the Astros did Bo Porter and he'll have dick to show for it.

What do you think a "successful* offseason and 21 season look like?

It depends on your definition of successful. General manager Jerry Dipoto said at the beginning of the offseason that he wanted to supplement the bullpen while adding some depth to the starting rotation. He has done that by acquiring right-handed reliever Rafael Montero from the Rangers in a trade and signing free-agent reliever Keynan Middleton and free-agent starting pitcher Chris Flexen to contracts.

Of course, Mariners fans might not view a potential closer (Montero) with only nine career save opportunities, a reliever with past arm issues (Middleton) who was non-tendered by his team and a starting pitcher (Flexen) whose only success came in the Korean Baseball Organization as meeting their requirements of a successful offseason.

To be fair, the offseason isn’t over. The Mariners could still add more players in the coming weeks. But again, multiple MLB sources have said Dipoto received a lower-than-expected payroll budget for the offseason, which would make adding a legitimate MLB contributor like Taijuan Walker difficult, regardless of the obvious fit. Normally, Dipoto is aggressive and steadfast in setting price points for perspective free agents, often moving quickly. The inactivity and context of recent comments, saying “if that’s possible” about adding more free agents is indicative of his situation.

The idea of payroll limitations to offset financial losses is galling for average fans. They live in a state of constant debt, now magnified with the pandemic, and have still invested their earned money into those often overpriced game experiences. To them the Mariners aren’t mitigating lost revenues, but refusing to match their own relative financial investment and commitment. Or put simply, fans don’t want to hear about billionaires losing money due to COVID.

As for a successful 2021, Dipoto and manager Scott Servais have said “getting better” every day and hopefully competing for a postseason spot would be their expectations. With the current roster, this team might be closer to 95 losses than 85 wins. Perhaps it is Evan White and J.P. Crawford “getting better” at the plate, Justin Dunn and Justus Sheffield “getting better” with their consistency and off-speed pitches, Jarred Kelenic eventually “getting better” at the MLB level and not the minor-league level and the possibility of a future playoff appearance “getting better” after this season.
