HR Derby

Post by Oso Dorado » Tue Jul 09, 2019 2:12 pm

Well, that was pretty entertaining, but I was left with a bit of a bad feeling about it, since Alonso won the Derby while hitting the third most HR's in the contest.
The epic semi final round between Guerrero Jr and Pederson was the the real championship in my eyes. Alonso hit the fifth most out of eight in the first round, the third most out of four in the semis, and wins the hardware.

Guerrero #1
Pederson #2
Alonso #3, Winner!

Not that it matters one whit, but still I call "Bullshit!".

Vlad won the popular vote but Alonso won the electoral college. Hopefully Vlad didn't spend all night crying his eyes out in his hotel room like Hillary did.

There were around 90 more home runs hit in this derby than in any other. Yeah, the balls are different this year, although they probably had a special batch made just for this competition.

They should do away with the one-on-one matchups and give the crown to whoever hits the most total home runs through all rounds.

Why would they have rounds then. In most years one guy would take a big insurmountable lead and like in soccer in most matches it would be over an hour before it actually ended.

Funny thing is, the farthest balls being hit went about as far as the farthest ones that are hit every year, about 475 feet. Also, considering that the players were teeing off, I think this adds a lot of credence to 500-plus foot home runs being just about entirely a myth, especially among old-timers.

Or have the top 4 go to the semis, then the top two to the finals.

Alonso would not have made the cut in either round.

Its a known fact that human feet were a lot shorter back then so it all makes sense. :)

Alonso employed a brilliant strategy of only exerting the minimum amount of energy required to dispatch with his first two opponents. He then had far more energy than his younger foolish counterpart going into the finals. Brains over brawn, the tortoise and the hare, live long and prosper.

They were Pro V1s wrapped in horsehide.
