So about Servais

Post by IStillLoveTheMs » Sun Jul 14, 2019 9:07 am

What a world we live in where a manager can make millions and not only be given the reins to lose this year, but next year as well.

I still do not get it.

The Mariners are going to be horrible for the rest of the season. They are going to be horrible next year as well. What kind of an organization gives a manager 7 years to prove he can lead a winner?

Concerns:

1. Young players get used to the "its baseball" mentality and all crash and burn into Servais mediocrity because there's this weird belief in the M's organization that you can never will yourself to victory. Instead, you have no control and winning is just something that happens by chance.

2. A culture of losing... a culture Servais breeds... there is no way in living fuck that's going to change with him at the helm. I'm convinced.

3. Accountability... I still fail to see who this clown ever holds accountable, including himself.

4. Why is it the A's can field a largely mediocre team talent wise and consistently produce a winner, but we can't? Oh that's right... Melvin is their manager... not Servais.

5. What kind of a F/A is going to want to play for this clown after the M's lose 100 games next year as well? Shouldn't we hire a manager who good players respect and want to play for? If this team is expected to contend by 2021... it ain't happening if we can't convince some boppers to head to the Northwest and it's not gonna happen with this asshole at the helm.

6. Servais literally challenged a homerun in the A's game the other day that wasn't... New York got the challenge wrong... Servais sat there looking like a scared little girl in the dugout... tears welled up in his eyes, he crossed his arms, said a few "DARN YOU'S" to the ump and cowered. How in God's name do you not get tossed after you find out they just fucked you? Why is he such a fucking wimp?

HE'S NOT A WINNER GUYS. HE NEVER WILL BE. THIS IS INSANE TO ME.

Servais has held one person accountable in public, that would be the guy with our highest 2018 BA and the second highest War on the team.

What heinous crime did he commit? He didn't hustle enough on a play where he actually scored for Servais's liking. imagine suspending someone for actually scoring in a game because you think they are being lazy when you have a third baseman making errors whilst blowing his bubblegum, putting up a 220 BA and less than half the War of the guy you suspended.

You fire him you fire Dipoto and he has done no wrong according to ownership. Dipoto constructed the roster and he did not want to add pitching...especially the bullpen.

Unfortunately Dipoto will never fire him. He's here as long as Dipoto is :(

The Ms were in purgatory, our high priced contracts for a regressing Felix, a potentially doping Cano, a unable to deal with the shif Seager and Cruz who did fine but couldn't field hamstrung us. We then tried hard to get Ohtani(can't blame Jerry) but we had half our budget spent on four players, we could maybe hindsight blame DiPoto for not trading Seager but we can't the rest.

Some GMs might have done better, a few would have done worse but DiPoto gets a pass from me now because I like some of his recent moves. His love of a pliable yesman manager I don't like and I have never been on board with Servais.

I could see another, more assertive manager moving in after/if some of the developing talent starts to make its mark at the ML level. It’s possible you could see Servais removed from managing by a ‘promotion’ or some other face-saving move instituted by the exec team. He becomes VP of baseball operations, scouting, or something similar. He’s happy, Jerry’s happy, and the wobbly wheels of the cart continue to turn.

That's pretty much what the Astros did but Porter got himself fired I don't see Servais doing that.

Yep..if only Earl Weaver could have managed the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1960s he would have reversed their "Culture Of Losing" and turned that team into a dynasty. With just the right words to say to his players, a "Culture Of Winning" type manager can magically add 200 points to any guys OPS.
We all know this to be true.

What? Didn’t you see Dipoto’s press conference upon his hiring, when he said, “I guarantee, that after 100 trades, and 100 free agent pitchers, we will be Re-Imagining?”

To repeat myself, all Melvin and the A’s do is Win!

No matter how many guys they lose through free agency and injuries!

They Get Maximum Output, then dump em before they fold, like Jack Cust, Brandon Moss, Vogt, et al.

Cust was a career minor leaguer, A’s get 80 hrs over 3 yrs, cut him, comes here, he’s Done!

Edwin Jackson is taken off the scrap heap last year, is solid, they let him go, this year he stinks.

His managing job last year was one of the best I’ve Ever Seen, 97-65!!!!!!

With a Threadbare young pitching staff beset by constant injuries!

A basic question in re Dipoto.

If your GM has to first “re-imagine” After 100 trades, and umpteen pickups, hasn’t he Failed?

If not, what’s the Point of Making Moves in the First Place?
