Team that should stick to baseball 2
Team that should stick to cricket 0

The second goal just proves the point how absolutely f****** ridiculous offsides is
The game would be ridiculous without offsides. It's a critical rule for the game. As critical as not being able to use your hands.

Same thing in hockey.

Wasn't going to jump in on the offside debate for the umpteenth time, and DV is right—without it, you'd just have a 6-foot-4 striker camping out next to the keeper all game waiting for a long ball. But think of it like this: every sport evolves its rules over the years, and they all look entirely stupid to the uninitiated.

Why is baseball 4 balls and 3 strikes? Why not just make it 2 balls and 2 strikes to save everyone from pissing around forever? Why do you have to drop a wooden bat after hitting a ball, but if you carry it to first base you're out?

And American Football? It's a sport called "football" where players exclusively handle and throw the ball, and the only time a foot actually touches the thing is for about four seconds a game to kick a field goal or a punt.

Every single sport is inherently ridiculous when you take it down to that granular level. You just accept the quirks because that's what makes the game work. Every rule in every game was introduced for a good reason, or at least good intention.

Next up - Scotland v Morocco, this could be a good un.......

The thing about soccer is it's more like basketball. It's a simple game. Baseball and football are some of my favorite sports to watch, but they have a steeper learning curve. There are way are more rules.

The whole point of soccer is timing the through ball, so that it breaks the defensive line at the same time the forward is breaking that line. It's fundamental. It's just as fundamental as not being able to use your hands. It's the core of the sport. I NEVER watch soccer, but I know that the game doesn't work without offsides.

Since this is a baseball forum, I'll say soccer without offsides would be like baseball without home runs. Why do they have a wall? Why not just make the field 4x as big so the ball stays in the field the whole time?

The best part is that the final, which determines the championship of the whole entire world, can end up 0-0 and be decided by penalty kicks where the goalie flips a coin in his head and dives in a pre-determined direction.
And what's wrong with that?

BTW It has only happened once - in 1994 in USA ironically. Only 3 World Cup finals have gone to a shootout.
3 out of the last 8 is not "only". Literally 37.5% of the time since 1994 the championship of the entire world has been decided by a guessing competition.

I remember the US women winning the World Cup in the same manner at the Rose Bowl, and that was a 0-0 match.

I meant in terms of simplicity. They are both very simple "put the ball in the net" games.

A better analogy of offsides for American sports fans, since the NFL DOES have offsides.

Imagine the ball being snapped in the NFL and you've already got an offensive player positioned 20 yards downfield.

The whole point of soccer is to time the throughball. You have to time it when the forward is making his run. If you don't understand, this, then I won't say you're a "dumb fuck", but I will say you have zero understanding of soccer. I NEVER watch soccer, but I know that the game does not work without offsides. Now, if you actually watch tons of soccer and and still claim the game would be better without offsides, then you are solidly entering "dumb fuck" territory.

My apologies. I have an extra ticket to the AquaSox game it you want to go.

the game would "work" without offsides just like basketball does. It would be a different game but I can assure you it would be a fully functional game.

Nah, it wouldn't work. You need the element of the defense setting the line and then the throughball. It's kind of obvious if you have watched soccer for even 10 minutes.
