Gilbert and Dunn are not a few years away. They will both be in the bigs at some point next season.

I don't think either should be starting in Seattle before midseason next year though. Maybe Dunn a little earlier, but neither will in Seattle in April next year. Thing is, will either be ready to come to Seattle and start every 5 days for the rest of the season. By April 2021 they should both be firmly entrenched in the rotation though.

I agree. Next season mid season is 11 months away and even April 2021 is only 20 months away. Neither qualify as a "few" years away.

Point is, Leake would have been a decent bridge. NBD as we can give Crismatt, McGaughan, Miesewicz, a handful of other guys dfa'd from other teams (like luiz Gohara )a chance as Gilbert and Dunn are getting ready in Arkansas and Tacoma.

A couple of opinions on Caballero, I also notice his plate discipline is through the roof this season and he has developed a knack for steals too.

Age: 22 (8/30/96)

Highest Level: A

.292/.378/.468, 9 HR, .176 ISO, 138 wRC+, 9.7% BB, 11.7% K, 17 SB- A/A-

I’ve seen Caballero play a few times, and I love this kid. After watching him take quality at-bat after quality at-bat, I dug in and was pleasantly surprised that he was actually a 7th-round pick in 2017 out of Chipola Junior College despite being born in Panama. High energy isn’t even the word here. Caballero puts on a show in the box and he’s a skilled hitter. He struck out as many times as he walked in his full season debut, and nearly ended up 1:1 on the season. He covers the plate extremely well and handles the bat just the same. Caballero is an average runner but it plays up due to his high baseball IQ and tendency to play with his hair on fire. I love this kid, and if he climbs the ladder like I think he can he will be a fan favorite soon enough. ETA 2021

Every time I watch video on Caballero, I end up liking his offensive skill set more and more. The first thing that jumps out at you is the smooth swing and tremendous bat speed. Caballero has shown a great feel for hitting and making consistent hard contact to all fields. While his swing is more geared for line drives, don’t be surprised if he gets into the 15-20 homer range annually. Caballero made starts at three different infield positions in 2018 and has the speed and athleticism to play the outfield as well if needed. Wherever his defensive home ends up being, Caballero offensive profile will fit just fine. This is a name on the rise and could crack the top-10 by this time next year.

Yeah, they didn't have to trade Leake, he could have been traded over the off season as well. I can remember during the Z years, can't remember the names, but hanging on to players during a lost season that were FAs at the end of the season, zero use for them but they would hold on to them...
