Trade!!!!
Re: Trade!!!!
Don't mind the Leake deal, paying his contract hurts a little, but it does save $6M and nets a return of a decent lottery ticket. We have guys in the pipeline that would replace leake, and it’s not like we are competing this year or next and I also think we have a human element here coupled with it probably being good we got rid of a guy who didn't want to be with Seattle.
Re: Trade!!!!
Well the assumed going rate is $8MM per WAR in FA so maybe not as that would be $36MM of value.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:49 pmincluding the 5 Million doallr Buyout for 2021, Leake was owed 53 Million starting in 2017 and the Cards picked up 20 million of that. With the D-bags picking up 6 that means when all the Money is done changing Hands, the M's will have paid Leake about 27 Million total. In exchange for that 27 Million we got a total of 4.5 bWAR out of him. Seems like Dipoto came out behind on that one.

Re: Trade!!!!
Yep FG has Trout's value at almost $80MM last year for his 9.8 WAR.Hanjag wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:02 pmNot that badly though. Leake was part of a luke warm attempt to push an aging core to 1 last chance before management was forced to accept the "re-imagination.".Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:49 pmincluding the 5 Million doallr Buyout for 2021, Leake was owed 53 Million starting in 2017 and the Cards picked up 20 million of that. I think the last guess-timation of F.A. WAR was 8 million per WAR per year. +/-. If we don't see any of the prospects blossom for us or them I am fine with it.

Re: Trade!!!!
It seems like a decent clearing of room. Az is only paying $159,032 of Leake's salary for the rest of the year, that's a prorated minimum salary. The snakes pay $6 million of Leake's 2020 salary and the M's pay the $5M option for 2021. It seems fair, but Leake should thank the M's management, imo.

I’m wondering if Jerry revisits him in a low risk acquisition.

Exactly. The cash savings over the next 8 months of baseball play is insignificant. It's the roster spot.Dr Naysay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 1:13 amDon't mind the Leake deal, paying his contract hurts a little, but it does save $6M and nets a return of a decent lottery ticket. Re: Trade!!!!
Gilbert and Dunn are not a few years away. They will both be in the bigs at some point next season.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:15 pmQuestion is, will it be rushig any of these kids to pitch them next year. I think the are a few that will probably be ready, but most are probably mid 2020 or later.bpj wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:03 pmThat's about 12x what they'll be paying one of the kids who need MLB experience.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:47 pm
They still have to play a lot of games until 2021 when somehow, magically, they will contend. $6 mil is reasonably cheap starting pitching.
The fact that we're talking about how much Leake has "been worth" is another stupid concept the saber dorks introduced.
If the Mariners didnt make the playoffs every dollar they spent was wasted. Leake wasnt "worth" any millions to us because nothing came of it.
If we have lottery tickets that didnt win, we don't calculate their value to us any longer based on what could've been.
Now it does give opportunities to Chrismat, McGaughan, Miesewicz, but they are all pretty fringy. Gilbert, Dunn, Sanchez are all a few years away. Sheffield probably sold have taken Milones spot in the rotation to start next season
