That's not what a "poison pill" is..
Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
Re: Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
Kyle Seager has a poison pill. The final year of his contract which is a team option with a small buyout fully vests at $15M if he is traded.

Sounds like he is happy as we are!!!
Jadeveon Clowney already looking forward to Sunday’s #Seahawks opener at CenturyLink Field: “Ah, this fan base. This fan base is probably the craziest I’ve ever played in front of. I don’t think there’s anything like it.”

Re: Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
Its referred to as a poison pill. Are you thinking Steve Hutchinson's tag with the Vikings was a true poison pill?
The Mariners’ odds of trading Kyle Seager have been greatly reduced with the recent revelation of trade stipulation in his contract.
While it has often been mentioned that the money owed to Seager is a hindrance — he is owed $19 million in 2019, $19 million in 2020 and $18 million in 2021 — it’s the largely unmentioned clause in his contract that states that his 2022 club option automatically becomes an exercisable player option if he’s traded.
“They put a poison pill in that deal and no team is going to want to take on that extra year for that cost,” said a MLB source. “Mariners would have to eat a lot of money to move him.”

Re: Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
It was originally a Wall st. term. That is where I first heard it.
What Is a Poison Pill?
A poison pill is a form of defense tactic utilized by a target company to prevent or discourage attempts of a hostile takeover by an acquirer. As the name "poison pill" indicates, this tactic is analogous to something that is difficult to swallow or accept. A company targeted for such a takeover uses the poison pill strategy to make its shares unfavorable to the acquiring firm or individual.
Poison pills significantly raise the cost of acquisitions and create big disincentives to deter such attempts completely.

Re: Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
When people refer to the "poison pill" in football terms. More specifically related to Seahawks and Hutchinson. This is what they mean..
Hawks didn't franchise Hutchinson. They let him go talk to other teams in good faith to set his worth and they were going to match it. Minnesota signed him to a contract with a "poison pill". Hutchinson had to be the highest paid offensive lineman at the time he signed the contract (Walter Jones was the highest) or Hawks had to fully guarantee his contract. Hawks weren't willing to do that and they lost Hutchinson. It was a colossal fuck up by Tim Ruskell amd it was something Schneider would never do right now.

Re: Your new DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney
Schneider fleeced Houston - that ship is in serious trouble. They just leveraged their future for Tunsil. idiots. There is no better fit in the NFL for Clowney, than Seattle. This should be a huge win/win for both - Seattle takes virtually no risk on this deal, even if Clowney walks. He'll be in a system with a great culture and a legit competitive environment, with that LB corp behind him and in front of those fans - all while going into a contract season. Talk about motivation. If healthy, his production could be epic. The usual pea brained media ilk will make this about sacks because that's the easy cut and paste stat - it's not - it's about disruption and speed - and then sacks. If Ansah and he are healthy - that is a ridiculous combo of size and speed coming off the edges. Jesus.
With Hutchinson - Seattle fucked up by using the transition tag instead of the franchise tag. That might've been another Ruskell blunder. I believe Ruskell transition tagged him while Holmgren was out of town and didn't even know what was happening. makes you really appreciate just how good Seattle's front office is these days, even though they totally fucked up by not foreseeing that ATV accident and should all be fired in retrospect. Plus, drafting a RB in the first round because all your backs were injured the previous year. Should still be totally fired for those unforgivable sins.
