Re: GT Escape from da Bronx: Cole vs. Castillo
Former Mariner David Arias thoughts on our series with the Yankees. Really enjoyed his poignant in depth insights.

I was thinking the same thing while I was watching today. I think everyone is going to love this guy and he'll be a fan favorite in no time.
I was extremely impressed with him today. He has 4 plus pitches, all with nasty movement. He looked like he was having difficulty controlling his changeup which they say is his best pitch, otherwise I think he would have been even more dominant. I'm sure he was pretty jacked up making his Mariners debut and wanting to prove himself to his new teammates and fans.
I'm truly excited about this guy and I hope we can extend him in the offseason if not sooner. And as far as I'm concerned, he IS a legitimate ace. Ray could only dream of having that kind of arsenal.
I was pretty surprised about one thing today though. For a team so obsessed with protecting its pitchers, letting him come back out for the 7th inning of a 7-1 ballgame after he was already approaching 100 pitches was unnecessary IMO. But I love this guy already and really look forward to his next start in front of a big pumped-up home crowd.

Jumping on Cole the way we did in that first inning, wow what a thing of beauty. It just doesn't get better than that.
If someone would have told me we would win 2 of 3 in NY without Julio, France or Mitch, I would have asked them to share whatever it was they were drinking. Kudo's to the team for stepping up the way they did under extremely difficult circumstances.
3-3 on this road trip against the two best teams in the AL and in their house, I'll take that every time. And the fact they did it without their 3 best players, even sweeter.
Next week when we play them in Seattle, we should have France and hopefully Mitch back, with Julio not far behind. LET'S KEEP IT GOING!!

Yeah wondered about that contract, it's not like the bluejays are idiots... starting lefties are dear? Boras is a great agent?.Kikuchi has struggled with his fastball control all season. He has walked 41 batters in 65 innings this year.
Kikuchi has not made it to the fifth inning in five of his past six starts.

3-4. We only won once in Houston, of a 4-game series. And I'll gladly take 3-4 and right now with a banged up roster.TraderGary wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:25 amJumping on Cole the way we did in that first inning, wow what a thing of beauty. It just doesn't get better than that.

Oh yes, you're right. My bad. I was thinking we played 3 in Houston instead of 4. But as you said, given all our injuries, going 3-4 against these two teams and in their house..... not bad.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 10:28 am3-4. They went from RR to KK and we went from KK to RR. Thus they will be playing Seattle vs. Toronto for the first playoff series. Kudos to Jerry for that.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:00 amYeah wondered about that contract, it's not like the bluejays are idiots... starting lefties are dear? According to Umpire Scorecards, C.B. Buckner's "job" at home plate yesterday gave the Yankees a 1.7-run advantage. That is beyond awful. I'm sure it was just by chance that almost all his blown calls went one way though.
