Seahawks trading up to #3?!!

Thing is, if they take a QB, will that improve the team? We all agree that Geno can be good for another year or two. But will the Hawks improve much by drafting a QB? The team needs defense. Better defense up front will improve the team's chances of doing well in the playoffs. Drafting a QB that they can slot in after Geno is through only means we're stuck where we are. Is Pete willing to stand pat for two more years? He's already 71.

It may feel like there's some truth to this. But how many FA defensive players did they sign in FA? And did they address their weak points in the process? So with that said, are we really 'stuck' if FA signings are taken into consideration? Maybe, but not for the reason that the team is exactly the same as last year.

Even after all of those signings we're still short about 3 DL by my calculation. They NEED to pick up a ton of those in this draft. And higher rather than later.

I think this is all smoke and mirrors - I would be legit surprised if they moved to take a QB - it's just not how they operate. They want to get someone esle to trade up for a QB to improve their defensive pick. Seattle's glaring glaring glaring weakness last year was the front seven - the moves they made this off season were great - but that front seven is still below average and wagner is not a long term answer. They have to start there to make this team formidable again. I will be shocked if they moved up - this is about building the defense. I could stomach the QB from Ohio state - but for the long storied history that program has - their QB's rarely make noise in the NFL - and the kid from bama is just too short. No way they take richardson. I can see them trading back, but no chance in hell they trade up. There is no need to. I 100% believe this is all a calculated attempt to get someone to trade up and take another QB leaving them with either anderson or carter to select. I don't beleive the 'red flags' will stop them from potentially taking carter - there isn't a team more qaulified to handle him than Carroll and co. That said, I can definitely see them trading back. I see no way they take a qb up top. Seattle's biggest problem is stopping the run - until that addressed - they will not be contending for anything - and Carroll and Schneider know this. All roads to the super bowl run through the d-line. Improve that and the secondary will look light years better - and they were pretty decent last year with a high ceiling of potential.

That's a lot of smoke and many mirrors with no outcome within their control. I mean, top brass is flying around the country in Allen's private jet to see QBs and not making other stops. Furthermore, there's really no news on them vetting 1st round defense, which would be near impossible to keep secret if they were vetting 1st round d. This would be some CIA level cloak & dagger stuff if your theory is correct.

I'd absolutely take Anderson if he's there at #5, but I have a feeling John and Pete do desire Richardson, for better or worse. A strong pivot for the future has to be made 'post Russ', and Geno is not the long-term solution.

As do I. You're takes are well thought out and I value you're opinion as well. I try to be as objectionable as I can. At the end if the day, we both want to see our Hawks become a power house again.

Mid-season, I was right there with on Carter's inclusion as a possible scenario with Anderson and the 4 QB's. I still have sleepless nights of the Malik McDowell blunder and how we drafted potential over character. We thought we might be able to coach him up. But I've seen too many McDowell, Harvin's, and Boykin's of the world and not enough ADB's! So I get really nervous when I see game tape on the biggest stage, a combine, AND a Pro Day all go up in flames. Not to mention the circus draft racing to go along with the fact there's a number of individuals around the league who thinks this kid has an attitude problem. That's one too many red flags for me.

Could he have been the hands down best overall prospect in this draft? You bet you're ass! There's no denying this kid's potential. But I value character very highly when thinking about who would be perfect for our locker room. That was what the Seahawks preached going into last year's draft and they absolutely crushed it along with the Jets draft. I think they carry that same mind set coming into this one as well.

If you or anyone could predict that the Hawks could get every last possible positive outcome out of Carter for the future, then I could see a situation where Seattle would have no choice but to take him when we pick.

Not denying this. I'm saying they are already a different defense thanks to free agency.

Have you guys ever seen the game Mindtrap? it's just a bunch of riddles, and one of my faves was just an ordinary English paragraph, and all you had to do is count the number of F's in the paragraph. I got it wrong, off by one because my mind overlooked the f in the word "of". pretty unreal that i could miss it when you know going in that the whole game is designed for tricks like that.
