You're probably right - but this move would also make a LOT of sense - Seattle could move someone from that loaded secondary in the deal, potentially restructure the contract - add a couple years and potentially ease the cap burden. Also - it's the seahawks - wouldn't that be a total seahawk move at the 11th hour? man, that front seven would be immediately very very formidable.
Adams restructures, saves 6.6m in cap space

Via's contract has already been restructured, that's what I was asking. Would Tampa restructure it and then trade him? Never heard of that

I don't know the length of his deal - but you could theoretically do a sign and trade - basically he signs an extension that seattle/TB work out - pushing the cap hit down the road and/or alleviating it with a significant signing bonus(es) - and adding (x) number of years to the deal. It only makes sense if seattle controls him for a minimum number of years like 2-3-4. I don't know the specifics of his deal - but a mauler like him in the trenches would be a significant move for Seattle and addresses their biggest weakness. That changes the run game defense entirely.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:36 pmVia's contract has already been restructured, that's what I was asking. What they need is cap space, they gained $9mil with the restructure. So what happens if they trade him? There's generally penalties with trades isn't there? When players change teams is when it gets complicated seems to me.
The Buccaneers are restructuring defensive tackle Vita Vea’s contract for the second straight year.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the team will convert the bulk of Vea’s $12.5 million salary into a signing bonus. The move will free up about $9 million in cap space for the Bucs.

Which is usually what a restructure does…moves the date the money is owed. Cap always goes up, so this usually isn’t a big deal.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:32 pmIt should be noted that the $6.6 mil in cap space saved this year will be added to Adams' cap hits in '24 and '25.

It is what it does, kicks the can down the road. They must have something in mind
Re: Adams restructures, saves 6.6m in cap space
Well that kind of price tag means he isn't coming to seattle - not at $12 mill a year - no way to make that work - Seattle already cap-strapped and looking for relief. Too bad.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:48 pmWhat they need is cap space, they gained $9mil with the restructure. So what happens if they trade him? His dead cap hit will go up making it more costly to cut him.Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:52 pmWhich is usually what a restructure does…moves the date the money is owed. Man, I would have loved to see Vea in a Seahawks uniform. Alas.

Secondary will be loaded when Adams and Witherspoon are healthy but not yet. They were adding to it with the waiver claim.auroraave wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:33 pmYou're probably right - but this move would also make a LOT of sense - Seattle could move someone from that loaded secondary in the deal, potentially restructure the contract - add a couple years and potentially ease the cap burden. I could be wrong but I don't remember any 11th hour moves.
Clowney was a full week before the season started.
