Re: New HC thread
I'm talking about failures, Josh McDaniels, Mat Patricia, Joe Judge, Romeo Crennel, Jim Schwartz, Eric Mangini, Brian Flores, Brian Daboll, Al Groh, Al Groh, Bill O'Brien, Bill Belichick assistants who failed at being a HC. They were given the chance because they were considered hot shots. Chuck Knox, Mike holmgren, Pete Carroll, all retreads. Personally I'd lean to the guy with a track record of success at being a NFL HC.

I always have been and always will be a high risk high reward guy. I remember when Sean Payton was going to save Russ Wilson. I remember when Doug Pedersen was all the Jags needed to right the ship, and it it hadn't been for the Chargers being the worst franchise ever? They'd have one blow out playoff loss to show for their entirety of time with Goldie Locks the sure thing.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:30 amI'm the opposite, I'm not excited about hiring a OC. It's a gamble, projecting if they can make the leap. I think we get too excited projecting possibilities. I'll take the veteran. What's interesting about Vrebel is he was fired for no appearant reason. Seems like the best of all worlds. He's up and coming no learning curve.
There is just too much evidence. I will never understand the logic that someone who has tried and failed is a better option than someone who hasn't gotten a shot yet. Learning curve? LeFluer won three straight division titles and went to two straight NFCCGs. McVey hit the ground running, McDaniels has taken the Dolphins to the playoffs in his only two years. The list goes on and on. You know what list doesn't? The list of successful retreads or guys brought in from college. Give me a guy that has been sleeping in his office pouring over plays, not the guy that has been shoving wads of cash into mom and dad's hands trying to get Jimmy to come play ball. And not a guy that has "his way" and it's already failed.
I don't understand the desire for some to just look right into the face of evidence and ignore it. Below are the playoff teams
Baltimore. HC was never a HC before he got here.
Buffalo. HC was never a HC before he got here.
KC. Andy Reid has been there for over a decade
Houston. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Cleveland. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Miami. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Pittsburgh. HC was never a HC before he got there.
SF. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Dallas. McCarthy
Detroit. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Tampa Bay. Tod Bowles
Philly. HC was never a HC before he got there.
LA Rams. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Green Bay. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Two things. 11 of 14 guys had NEVER BEEN A HC before. 0 out of 14 ever had a Head job in college.
But, yeah, the risky proposition is hiring an existing Coordinator. Learning Curve and all.

Love that show. Some fantastic acting.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 10:36 pmI want DeBoer to coach the Huskies for 2 more Decades so I don't want that.
I think that he would agree that he was put on the Earth to recruit and coach college kids as opposed to chasing money in the NFL.

Higher reward? Going big? I'll tell you what it is, it's cheaper. Giving a guy his first crack at being a HC would be cheaper than a Quinn or a Mike VrabelD-train wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 2:30 amI always have been and always will be a high risk high reward guy. Re: New HC thread
Jesus Donn, are you just going to band this drum forever despite the evidence to support otherwise? You want Doug Pedersen and Tod Bowles and not Sean McVey and Kyle Shannahan? Sorry, I don't.
As for Jason Garret, was that a joke? You know he was the Charger OC right? Sorry, I know it was Kellen Moore, but what's the difference! Haha

Sure I want McVey or a shanahan, but I'm not interested in sifting through OCs trying to find them. I'm not banging a drum, I'm explaining my preferences just like you are

People were surprised they didn't trade Vrabel but guess it wasn't that simple
Belichick’s successor might have been made available Tuesday. The Titans shockingly fired Mike Vrabel, who probably could have fetched a quality return on the trade market. But as Tennessee owner Amy Adams Strunk explained in a team-posted interview, a deal would’ve been very complicated to reach, if not impossible.

Guess Johnson wouldn't be cheap. So he's the guy, the next McVey
If you want Ben Johnson to be your next head coach, you're going to have to be willing to open up your checkbook. Some NFL owners have been told that the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator's asking price is at least or around $15 million per year to be a head coach, according to CBS Sports HQ senior NFL insider Josina Anderson.
