It's both but where the abuse happens is with the ones who graduate from Indian universities. And I'm not saying that none of these people are deserving. The issue, for me, is the way the pipeline has been set up in this very systematic way to become this convenient crutch for the tech companies.gil wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 10:47 pmAre the visas bringing in workers whose education is in India (for example), or are the visa holders graduates of US universities who want to say here? For some reason I have been assuming it is the latter.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 9:30 pmSounds like he likes the concept of the visas but not the way they have been used. They are needed to bring bright and well-educated people from other countries to fill the void created by our leftist-dominated education system which values equity and (racial) diversity over intelligence and merit. Foreigners are needed in top-level positions as research scientists and in the tech sector but shouldn't be brought here to replace equally qualified Americans in lower level jobs. We all know that happens because companies can pay them less while not providing the same benefits.
And I'm not sure, for all the problems with "leftist dominated education," that anyone can make the claim that US universities aren't, overall, the best in the world. If you disagree, I'd welcome the evidence.

I'd get rid of all fence jumpers, because they're breaking the law just by being here, and cut off the work visas, because the program has obviously been exploited.
The people who are here illegally force the cheap labor.
If farmers had to hire American labor because these scabs weren't allowed to undercut our workers, the US workers would earn a fair wage, and buyers at the supermarket would pay what the product should cost in a free market if the labor wasn't farmed out to illegals.
But first and foremost, need to get out the people who are here breaking the law.

What American labor? The unemployment rate is like 4% which is considered full employment. There isn't some untapped labor force to send in and pick crops, In fact even the migrant labor force is drying up. The average age of a migrant farm worker now is like 40. And the number of them has been reduced significantly. I don't think cutting off what labor there is available now to farmers to get their crops to market would really solve anything
Re: H1B Visas, Elon Musk, and Trump's Flip Flop
The problem isn't 'illegals' coming over the border and 'taking all the farm labor jobs'. That's been happening for decades. That was happening before Biden. US farms are dwindling - fewer than ever before. That means fewer jobs for those that were already here. The problem is the estimated 10-15 million NEW illegals that came across when Biden opened the border - what are those 10-15 million people doing for jobs? The farm gigs are already taken - so what are the new 10-15 million new people doing here - besides living off - literally - our hard earned tax dollars? 15 million people that we are paying for. That's a massive rip off to the US taxpayer - that is undeniable.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 10:02 amI'd get rid of all fence jumpers, because they're breaking the law just by being here, and cut off the work visas, because the program has obviously been exploited.

Why has no one ever explained how opening the border is good for the average American taxpayer? Dems won't talk about it because they know it terrible for us. I have asked this a thousand times - what is the motive behind doing something that only hurts the US taxpayer?
No country has open borders - it's a safety issue first and foremost - if you are here illegally you 100% deserve to be booted out - just like every other country in the world does - but somehow, idiotic CNN goons and Dems pretend 'it's no big deal' and try to make people think LEGIT immigrants are going to be targeted - which has never been the intention by anyone. That position makes no sense on any level - yet the usual morons trot it out like people can't see through it.
The education system in the US has declined by every metric over the last 20 years - you can start with DEI admissions instead of merit as one brutal reason why. If Web want the best and brightest to take advantage of the inherent resources this country offers - we need to get back to basics of education - stop politicizing it and stop pretending math is racist. Okay, maybe that's only here in Cal

Re: H1B Visas, Elon Musk, and Trump's Flip Flop
Hey, man, math IS racist. So are all branches of science and engineering. They are just manifestations of the patriarchal, racist, homophobic establishment. Calculus and differential equations are all about controlling the brain dead masses. Polio isn't caused by the polio virus. Wake up sheep!
Ok, got THAT out of my system!
Right now, how many American-born American citizens, ok, non-Latino if you will, would be willing to take a farm worker job? Not many, I would venture. And yes the number of farms has decreased, but there are still a lot of farm worker jobs. The farm owner who can make a living on a hundred acres is going the way of the 8 track tape, but there are still a lot of jobs picking crops, laying irrigation, etc, for large "corporate" farms.
As to fixing American education so that American-born citizens get to grad school and get the best paying jobs, yes yes yes. Let's figure out a way to do that. Some people say it's because we are dumbing down the curriculum to insert woke shit for hard math and science. Maybe.
Vivek Ramaswamy said it's a culture thing: “A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.” Maybe. I don't think that is all to it, but there is a big part of our culture that mocks guys who are smart but not masculine enough or tall enough, or women who are smart but not attractive enough (or "feminine" enough).
But most of all, let's keep building dynamic, innovative, profitable technology-driven firms and industries, right here in America.

And I was just thinking about undocumented workers in meat packing, construction, etc. If the new Trump administration wants to round up people here illegally, there is some pretty low hanging fruit. Identifying the violent criminals is going to be a lot harder than mass roundups of people at work, at church, etc. I'm interested in seeing what actually happens.
Re: H1B Visas, Elon Musk, and Trump's Flip Flop
I agree the farm workers aren't the problem. They're the last ones Homan should deport if he gets that far. Unless they've gotten in any trouble of course. Even shoplifters should be deported.auroraave wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 4:00 pmThe problem isn't 'illegals' coming over the border and 'taking all the farm labor jobs'. They'll obviously start with the violent criminals, gangs, drug cartels. The bad guys.
I'd love to see Trump do what Bukele did in El Salvador, round up all the trouble makers. While also doing what Milei did in Argentina and cutting all the bureaucratic nonsense out.

And it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they made a lot of mistakes and sent a lot of our own criminals, gangs and drug dealers to the VERY FAR SOUTH.They'll obviously start with the violent criminals, gangs, drug cartels. The bad guys.

Aside from farm work, a lot of them fill voids in construction, housekeeping, line cooking, janitoring...auroraave wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 4:00 pmThe problem isn't 'illegals' coming over the border and 'taking all the farm labor jobs'. Again, low-level jobs that not all Americans can occupy due to necessity and lack of motivation.
If the government investigates and finds that they don't have a job and are indeed leaching off the system or are performing criminal acts... sure, send them back. But again, we tend to vilify a section of our workforce that is a necessity.
Companies like MSoft/Facebook/Google etc... should be investing in the American workforce. In my opinion, they owe the US to their success and should pay it back by investing in the future of this country.
