Ahhh, the Seattle Mariners. Disappointing fans and embarrassing the city of Seattle for 5 decades. I an honestly shocked anyone follows this never ending dumpster fire - the worst organization in sports. I can't for the life of me understand it. They have made it CLEAR - year after year after year - they have NO INTENTION of being a competitive franchise. As long as you continue to consume their expensive and absolutely god awful product - they will gladly keep serving it to you.

The Mariners were the lowest scoring team in baseball just a few seasons ago - and instead of investing in the on-field product in the off-season, they bought a new scoreboard - for a team that doesn't score.

If you are still following them after that - sorry, you deserve every single painful outcome. Vote with your money and your time - because they are wasting yours - and pretty much flaunting it in your face at this point. Stop consuming garbage and expecting something else. I have no sympathy for people willfully consuming crap - and then complaining about it. WTF has this team ever done for you to expect anything better? I just don't get it.
Short form b/c he's incapable.

"The Mariners are embarrassing and ownership doesn't care to change that.

Instead of performance, they only invest in meaningless things that make money and you deserve what you get if you still follow them."

You've worked in journalism... has nobody ever tried to simplify your writing?
Didn't they just invest in Cal Raleigh?
Same argument they made after signing Julio and passing on all the good players on the actual market.

It's an investment in the three years they extended Cal, I suppose. But it's not really an investment in the current team in my opinion.

They're just replacing guys like Luis Castillo on the payroll down the road with Julio and Cal's contracts.

They are drafting, developing and retaining. i believe they've made the plan pretty clear and are sticking to it. They have Colt Emerson, Cole Young, Michael Arroyo and Felnin Celesten; Lazaro Montes, Jonny Farmelo, Harry Ford. Ben Williamson and Tai Peete coming along. And they continue to have the financial flexibility to continue to extend players like Gilbert and Kirby. They also have Jurrangelo Cijntje, Ryan Sloan and Logan Evans in the pipeline. You may not like the plan but I don't think it's accurate to claim they have no interest in investing in the team. You guys completely missed the mark when it came to the Raleigh extension. I was told cal Raleigh was never going to buy into it but there he is buying into it, it's pretty funny actually

Yeah, they used to also trade. And act like they were going to reinvest the money saved during the "step back" on impact players.

Personally I don't care that they extend guys.

Young players are meant to be used for 6 years you have them. They're the current constants that you plan your NOW roster around.

I don't think Julio should be earning $20M this season (13.3% of total payroll). And certainly not sure we want him around until 2040.

The extensions are cool and shiny. But they didn't make the current team any better. They're not even investments. They're just pre-allocating future payroll.

Sure, there's no reason for you to like their plan but it's their plan. I think it's inaccurate to say they only invest in meaningless things

Why do you always say "It's their plan" when the subject clearly isn't what their plan is, but whether or not that plan is sound?

Well, nobody is saying otherwise and you're literally arguing with yourself.

Here are their guaranteed contracts through 2029. Cal and Julio are the only obligations by 2028.

By then they'll just be the expensive vets, we'll have new kids around them, and we'll still wonder why payroll's $150M and they won't sign or trade for any middle of the order bats...

The problem is they're only pre-allocating future payroll, instead of doing anything to make the team better.

Remember when people fell for the "we cant spend because of the 2026 crest" bit?? Lol.
