If Stanton felt public opinion had turned against him I could see him scapegoating dipoto. It be along the lines of them firing Servais. There was dancing in the streets but what did it get us, another carbon copy manager. And really I think the game management aspect is pretty small, replacing Servais with Wilson didn't change a thing. What they lost was a guy that's respected around the league for his player development abilities. All that's changed is the padres scooping Servais up to fill that role
Mallex Smith, Braden Bishop, Shed Long, Evan White, Jake Fraley, Jarred Kelenic, Abraham Toro, Sam Haggerty, Taylor Trammell, Jake Bauers, Donny Walton, Dom Canzone, Cade Marlowe... all say hello.
“I have to be thankful for what he did for my career. I think he’s one of those guys who turned my career around,” Cruz said. “I remember when I went to Triple-A that year, he came the first day, we started working right away. He showed me a few videos of a few guys that had looked like me – Carlos Lee, Derek Lee – and he tried to implement that stance on a new guy.”

It was when he was with the Rangers, not sure what your point is, Servais doesn't know what he's doing or player development isn't important as a baseball manager?

Sheesh! I could have managed the Mariners to a 1-64 record. Dan, in the same mold as Mr. Servais, needs to go. Nice guy. But we need a manager with fire in his belly for a change. Lou, are you available? Or is the Shag deal too lucrative?

The point is he had a player development role in the minors.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 12:20 amIt was when he was with the Rangers, not sure what your point is, Servais doesn't know what he's doing or player development isn't important as a baseball manager?
That doesn't mean shit in terms of being a good manager at the major league level.
And if "player development" was what he was supposed to thrive at as a manager, he was pretty freakin bad at it.

I disagree, in my opinion filling out lineup cards is the tip of the iceberg in terms of a managers responsibilities. They are always working on development. They are actively involved in who's promoted or sent down. And they're expectef to continue the development when a prospect is promoted to the majors. I should probably give Dan more credit, he has been involved in the minors up until his promotionSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 3:10 amThe point is he had a player development role in the minors.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 12:20 amIt was when he was with the Rangers, not sure what your point is, Servais doesn't know what he's doing or player development isn't important as a baseball manager?

The mariners have developed a few players, Cal Raleigh comes to mind. If Servais was considered bad at it I doubt A.J. Peller gives him a job continuing to do it

Just because he was given a job in player development in the minors doesn't mean he was good at player development as a manager.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 3:50 amI disagree, in my opinion filling out lineup cards is the tip of the iceberg in terms of a managers responsibilities. How about the pitching
Re: The Proverbial Question
Dipoto literally has chosen all the players and manager. The fault is clear
Re: The Proverbial Question
Mariners pitching has the #17 ERA in baseball and that's with T-Mobile as their home park.

289 runs scored
300 runs allowed, a -11 RD while Houston is +21.
And now Sea-dull is back to .500 and probably 12 games out by the all star break.
