Do we get any production from Santos when his knee is healthy?
I've been going on the assumption that he's a next year proposition at this point.

I've been saying this since the first few weeks of the season, that pitching is the greater need.
Doesn't matter what the greater need is and I agree it is Pitching. Get Geno and then you can add to the pen.

We need some bullpen help, but we also need at least 1 more bat. I don’t think you can upgrade the 5th pitcher significantly from Evans/Hancock/miller without giving significant prospects. Trade for Geno and 2 bullpen arms and I think that’s a good deadline.
Exactly. Sadly I think Geno will be the biggest overpay for a rental in MLB history and no way Jerry does that because it is counter to the 54% philosophy.

Trading him in the first place, for two losers, was absurd.

Brewers series conclusion: One run in 18 innings of baseball? I didn’t do the math, but they didn’t have many XBH either.

We’re joking ourselves if we think our top priority heading into the trade deadline is pitching. Yeah, we could use a fresh bullpen arm, but good god we need some bats to spark some rallies in this lineup.

While we’re at it, move Julio to the 5 or 6 spot till he relearns how to hit.

Yes, lets base our whole trade deadline plan off a two game sample size against a starter with a 1.65 ERA and a rookie throwing 102MPH.

You are basing it off of cumulative pitching stats when over half our rotation has been injured at one point in time. Do they need bullpen help? Sure, but that is the easiest thing to acquire at the deadline. Pretending this lineup is enough is absurd, sorry, flat out absurd.

We are ranked 14th in the power rankings. That puts us right in the middle of the pack. When healthy, we have one of the best pitching rotations in baseball. So yeah, everyone would like another competent starter for insurance purposes. But when we are in the middle of baseball in terms of offense, we can’t sit here and pretend that another starter will get us to the postseason, much less carry us through a World Series.

I agree, Michael - we need some offensive help badly. But as D-Train pointed out recently, the pickings are pretty slim, even for rental bats.

And for the record, Julio is not trending in the right direction as he ages. His OPS had been .853, .815, .734, .720

He has dropped more than 130 points since his rookie season. Why the fuck is he still batting 2nd or 3rd?

That’s ok. Julio will heat up. He’s always takes a while to get into a groove. Should be batting .280 by early October.
