We’re joking ourselves if we think our top priority heading into the trade deadline is pitching. Yeah, we could use a fresh bullpen arm, but good god we need some bats to spark some rallies in this lineup.
While we’re at it, move Julio to the 5 or 6 spot till he relearns how to hit.
That’s ok. Julio will heat up. He’s always takes a while to get into a groove. Should be batting .280 by early October.

Why would you just assume that the pitching staff is going to suddenly get healthy and start pitching well when they haven't done it for 4 months?Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 5:11 pmYou are basing it off of cumulative pitching stats when over half our rotation has been injured at one point in time. Do they need bullpen help? Sure, but that is the easiest thing to acquire at the deadline. Pretending this lineup is enough is absurd, sorry, flat out absurd.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 4:28 pmYes, lets base our whole trade deadline plan off a two game sample size against a starter with a 1.65 ERA and a rookie throwing 102MPH.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 3:48 pmBrewers series conclusion: One run in 18 innings of baseball? Why would you assume there is a starter out there that is an improvement over what we had? Not? Do the same exercise with half our more of our starting 9.
Zero chance we find a starting pitcher that is a bigger improvement than if we add an impact bat. Zero.
Far better chance out pitching stays healthy than we start getting big time production from 3rd or 1st Base or DH. But yeah, let's add a sixth starter and see what happens.

Paul Skenes is on pace to be this year‘s National League so young winner. It’s likely if he wins that he’ll have the fewest number of wins of any Cy Young award winner. That’s because the Pirates can’t build an offense to give him a win even when he pitches his guts out. Sound familiar?Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 5:15 pmWhy would you assume there is a starter out there that is an improvement over what we had? Not? Their dreamers out there who are proposing a trade involving a bunch of our top prospects for Skenes. These are likely the same dreamers who imagine a trade for. Acuna as the answer to our offensive impotence. We couldn’t pull this off in a video game with the “force trades” option enabled. But yeah, he’d boost our rotation meaningfully!!
At this point we don’t look like we will even pull of a trade for Geno. Dipoto will wind up scraping the bottom of the barrel, and trade away decent prospects for wages up has-beens that are no better than what we are trotting out right now.
Color me pessimistic.

No it doesn't sound familiar. The M's have three starters with a positive ERA+ and none of them have a losing record. The M's have scored the most runs in the AL West by a decent margin.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 6:18 pmPaul Skenes is on pace to be this year‘s National League so young winner. The mariners offense, other than batting average and strikeouts is above the average in every offensive ML category
