Ok this is weird too. I see the PB system now as a Vernier scale. The baseline scale is 5 units, the moving scale is 6 units. 5 being the usual pace of starting pitchers, and 6 being the number of pitchers. As you move through the pitchers in a normal rotation, oops there's an extra one, so let's fold the 6 scale back by one by doubling up, afterward resume the normal pitcher rotation, which keeps the guys in rhythm, important for pitchers......and platooned batters too if you're reading this Wilson!
