Quite right Darren.

I think the thread went off on a cultural tangent and DavidGee is right that it touched a nerve with me.

How about this as an observation. The World Cup is held every four years and the football family would do anything to be given the honour of hosting it.

That honour was given to Qatar last time and now the USA. It's fine if anyone doesn't like football, but why treat it like it's a tin-pot joke? It isn't.

We would love to host a Super Bowl at Wembley and would treat it with great respect. How about America doing the same with the World Cup?

Some of it is funny - go Jason! But some was more undignified including me throwing shade at DavidGee, who is a good guy —a HERO even—and for which I am truly sorry.
All good, my friend! We all know that you have been a cherished member of the forum for years staying up all hours of the night following and honoring America's pastime and for some reason our pathetic favorite team and I can fully understand why you would expect at least a bit up respect for your country's top sport. God speed my brother! We owe you a case of tea. :)

It's all good mate, and I was happy to read that.

And we're ALL heroes here...well, 54% of the time, anyway. :D

It's nice to see a disagreement and/or misunderstanding get worked out, rather than seeing insults flying. Thanks, David and Mike! For this and obviously for all that each of you contributes here.

If you take offense to Americans making fun of soccer, then you got issues. Who cares? It's dudes running around kicking a ball.

I watch sports, but it's really not that big of a deal and I certainly don't care if other people think they're stupid, because in a lot of ways they are. It's just something to pass the time. It ain't that serious.

If someone thinks baseball is boring, all sports are rigged, or only losers spend their time watching sports, that's fine. In the words of Mike Mcdonald, I do not care.

It was just a bit of passion that fired the wrong bullet at the wrong person at the wrong time.

Nothing serious.

And our reactions were slightly, "The redcoats are coming!!", so I'm sorry about that. You're a good bloke.

It's nice that there's a game for the dainty little fellas that can't play any real sports.
Now that was funny!

What do you make of the "cablegate" controversy? Did the ball hit the wire or not?
