Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread (Rumors and Ideas Welcome)
Re: Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread (Rumors and Ideas Welcome)
Jerry's overthinking it because he's a tiny brained dufus that thinks he needs a right handed bat instead of a good hitter, like always.

I can think of a team that needed a leadoff hitter that bats .330 and hits against any pitcher...

All I ever hear is how the Manager doesn't matter.
Philadelphia fell to 9-19 when Rob Thomson was fired on April 28 and replaced by Don Mattingly. The Phillies are 44-24 since and trail NL East-leading Atlanta (55-40) by two games.
Yet the only team to never make a World Series holds on to lifeless managers like a toddler with a teddy bear.Boston fired Alex Cora after a 10-17 start and the Red Sox are 36-31 under Chad Tracy, ending the first half with their first 9-0 road trip since 1977.

Jerry only lies when he talks. No biggie.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 7:34 pmJerry today:
"We do have a clear flaw for facing left-handed pitching, and that’s something we’d like to resolve, although there are no really clear and obvious places we can fit those players on our roster, and there are no clear and obvious players who are available who can upgrade us in that way. The best players we can acquire are the players we have. We just need them to do the things that they have historically done."
Lol... I hate it when he says this shit knowing it's a lie.

Oh god - I have been jonesing for Arraez for years now. I’d love it if the M’s orchestrated a trade for him, even if it is just a short term rental. Literally all the dude does is hit. And then we can pray that hitting is contagious.

Perfect summary but we will somehow sneak into the playoffs once again justifying their half ass strategy....Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 8:23 pmI have read nothing new or noteworthy. The stuff we are all hearing is the same stuff that’s been discussed for the last 2 months. In short:
- We need a right handed bat and a reliever. So does almost everyone else.
- We have the number 8 farm system, so we have depth to use if we so choose. Only Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan are untouchable (they may be called up later in the season).
- The M’s may finally trade from pitching depth. Of course Castillo is the one they want to be in the chop, but he’s the most expensive, he’s on the wrong side of 30, he has another expensive year left in his contract, and he has an ERA of nearly 5. So, yeah. There’s that. They should have traded him during the offseason.
- All the armchair pundits want Wilson Contreras. But so does everyone else. Even if he was available - which I doubt he is since the Red Sox are raking it now - some evil empire like the Dodgers or Yankees will get him because they are willing pony the fuck up.
- We have SS and 2B locked up for the foreseeable future, but we have a glaring gap at 3B moving forward.
- Everyone is waiting for the post all-star break surge in Cal and Julio. And all of our problems will be solved once they figure out to hit again and Brendan Donovan comes off the IL. Hope springs eternal.
So yeah - let’s all just get used to the fact that nothing will happen, we wind up 4th in the division and 8 games out of a wild card spot.
- Dipoto is on record as saying they aren’t going to make any splashy moves before the deadline.
Say it loud and say it proud … “there’s always next season.”

How can you not see this difference between this season and last season??? We had two gaping holes at 1B and 3B and were able to trade a bunch of junk for Naylor and Geno. This season we have Naylor at 1B and JP and Donovan at 3B. Dom is now full time DH. Only thing they can do is DFA Ref and replace him with another platoon bat. That's it.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 8:44 pmUnsure what you mean by "nothing will happen." That hasn't been their deadline performance since before the rebuild. I don't know that it will be something earth shattering like Abrams... but again, a decent reliver and a player like Taylor Ward would do a lot for this team.

Taylor Ward is hitting .255 with 6 HRs in 439 PAs. On pace for like 8-9 HRs!!!Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 8:44 pmUnsure what you mean by "nothing will happen." He hit 36 HR's last year, on pace for 10 this year.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 8:52 pmI think that we will end up with Ward. He hits lefties well, he gets on base, and he's one year removed from hitting 36 home runs. It's just a matter if the Oriholes will take Castillo off our hands or if they want prospects in return. Either way, Ward probably won't cost much.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 8:44 pmUnsure what you mean by "nothing will happen." His baseball card says he plays 3B & LF. He subbed, not started, at 3B for two games in 2022.
He does bat righthanded, I'll give him that.

He's hitting .297/.441/.451/.891 vs LHP this year.
They add him and a reliever and I really can't complain much.
